Oof, it's not getting good reviews. Apparently there's no inventory, no items and no roleplay elements. I don't even know what the game is then, but it doesn't seem like a successor to the original game.

Just another watered down action adventure that all of our favorite IPs of yesteryear have turned into. Despite all of its jank Bloodlines was one of my favorite games growing up and I'm not even really interested in this one. I mourn for the game this could have been.

I was kind of hopeful seeing as Paradox was backing it, but alas.

No roleplay elements? Damn that's a shame. I'm sure their marketing gave a very strong impression that there would be roleplay. Really disappointing if true.

I should've rephrased that, you do get the dialogue wheel, it's just that from what I read you can't make your own character, play as you like etc.

you can’t make your own character

tbh I don't rate this high on my list of criticisms. A lot of great RPGs have you embody a specific character. The Witcher is very specific about who Geralt is, and even Mass Effect starts from a fairly defined background.

play as you like

This is definitely more concerning. If you don't have the freedom to evolve the character (narratively, not just mechanically) and to choose how you go about solving the problems to some degree, that's very disappointing for a game that is ostensibly an RPG and is definitely based on a very narrative-focused (TT)RPG.

Very good point.
I'm obviously just going on 2nd hand accounts, but because of how different this sequel is to the first game, I can certainly see why fans are disappointed. They did do such a good job at creating a world for so many possibilities in the first game, and to just replace that with a more linear experience, well I'd be pissed too.

Crazy that they were going to put part of the title behind a paywall considering the above report, but I guess this is part of why they backed off. That or it was manufactured out of whole cloth to generate some pre-launch good will, these publishers really do demand cynicism.
