He’s leaving because NY is planning to arrest him for additional crimes that are unpardonable.

[–] errer@lemmy.world 72 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Expecting him to relocate to Texas and running for one of the new gerrymandered seats there. I wish I was joking.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 hour ago

Well he has lived in Texas his entire life.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 week ago

I hope you aren't.

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wish they'd fucking hurry up and grow a spine and do it already.

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Politicians are strongly motivated to keep other politicians out of jail. It's their clique and you're not in it.

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm well aware. I'm a devout anarchist with a strong sense of justice, but I can still wishcast that our feckless leaders will actually do something while knowing that is never going to happen.

They're already calling him "mayor Mamdani". Like it's a foregone conclusion and they've just given up.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 48 points 1 week ago

I HOPE they have given up, lmfao!!

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mayor Mamdani has a nice ring to it.

[–] parody@lemmings.world 8 points 1 week ago

So does

ZOOOOHHHHRRRANNNNN MAAAAMMMMMDDDAAAANNNNNIIIII

emerges onto wrestling ring to mass applause

(…anybody? Am I the only one?)

[–] balsoft@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Maybe this is a 4d chess move so that people forget about the election day?

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 87 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

According to MAGA, Trump is somehow protecting all of America but also isn't?

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 47 points 1 week ago

Whatever fits their narrative of the hour.

[–] ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think his cult views it like God and Satan. So no matter how omnipotent, God wasn't able to prevent Satan from accessing Eden as a snake and tempt Adam and Eve.

IMHO those people already have been heavily brainwashed by their religion so they're willing to believe whatever fits the main narrative.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Another lemming pointed out a hypothesis that explains all this:

To some, good and evil are something you inherently are, not just something you do.

Barring some very, very specific circumstances (e.g. baptism), the die is cast. From that vantage point, it's easy to have shorthand for good/bad guys, regardless of what deeds they commit. This is where corrupt leadership and propaganda slot-in by inventing new and exciting ways to judge people.

That's just so stupid. Nothing against you and this take, it's likely not far from the truth. But the whole concept you describe is just.. dumb..

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I love how Satan thought that Eve would've found a talking snake more trustworthy than his true form: an angel.

(Yes, I know that Satan being the snake was retconned. It's just another funny thing about Christian mythology that nobody thinks to point out.)

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

Well, it's more like God likes to let Satan just do whatever, then punish everyone involved after.

The facist playbook. The enemy is both weak and very strong and dangerous. The only one that can protect us from "the others" is the facist dictator.

Simple, democrats aren't real Americans

[–] Bongles@lemmy.zip 62 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So let's see

  • more affordable housing
  • better transit
  • better wages
  • childcare
  • violence prevention

God what a menace. Why would any of that be dangero.... ah " raising taxes on big corporations and the ultra-wealthy." I see.

~I gathered this from a summary, I'm not in NYC so I'm not keeping up with it~

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

No, sounds like you've got it right.

Damn, you ever have that experience where another word temporarily takes over the real word's place? I could not remember the correct word after reading that sentence. The fucking turd is attacking my brain!

If people don't know Gianmarco he's a hilarious up and coming comedian. He hosted Mamdani's rally recently

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OeiGbzTCLk

I've seen clips of his material all over Instagram. I was just going to say the same. His delivery is so good. I really hope he becomes the next superstar comedian. He deserves the success

[–] RecursiveParadox@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Love this guy! Thanks for introducing me.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 24 points 1 week ago

I feel his tweet should have included "Because I broke the law"

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

What disingenuous bullshit is this?

You can argue about majors being good or not until we die but this dude is acting as if the Shakira laws are about to be implemented with this mamdani.

Edit: sharia law, of course, thank you auto correct. Not fixing it, I guess it's funny :)

[–] flying_sheep@lemmy.ml 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

They all are clutching their pearls because Mamdani would demonstrate that a more leftist approach could be popular. This feels threatening to the Republicans because a neoliberal milquetoast Democratic party isn't dangerous to them, and this would be.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

neoliberal milquetoast Democratic party

It's threatening to them as well, note the amount of pushback from DNC fossils when he won the primary and the panic now that it seems he might win.

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago

From what I hear from people that religiously watch Fox News, that's the whole narrative. Mamdami is brown and Muslim, and all Muslims in government enact Sharia Law, therefore Mamdani will force us all to be Muslim.

The logic isn't there, but it does play into the Great Replacement theory they love so much.

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Lie detectors? Ohoho no no, we're implementing the hip test. Even you, Mr. Santos, can't fool that one.

[–] Eq0@literature.cafe 4 points 1 week ago

Fantastic typo!

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mamdani makes me want to move to NY just to vote him in.

I hope NJ gets such an incredible candidate as well. And he inspires me to try to become that candidate.

[–] merdaverse@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

He also has a very appealing campaign and social media presence. Very viral stuff. Whoever is working on it is pretty amazing.

And just seeing all the right wing people scramble to prevent this supposed Antichrist from rising their taxes is hilarious.

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

Well, you could always move to DC. I hear that runny orange cum dribbles freely down the chins of the proud Republicans there.

[–] JustTheWind@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Oh no. Which one of his six mansions in the US alone will he need to move his family to. Weather's getting colder soon; so maybe he can over-winter at one of their private islands instead. Heard they have great child-care in those places.

[–] solarvector@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't disagree, but also... So much of what he says is just such absolute bullshit that I feel like it's kind of a waste of time to even try and verify. But truth is important. But it's also a funny (ish) meme. 🤷‍♂️

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

You don't disagree about what part.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't understand. Can one just request to move prisons?

He couldn't even make it through the first sentence without a lie:

... I've called home my entire life

But...

Around 2008, George moved to Niterói in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Area, where his mother, Fátima, was then living, and lived there until 2011,[12][24] although acquaintances of Santos from that period are unsure whether he lived in Brazil or merely visited. Many knew him as Anthony Devolder.

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

totally has nothing to do with NYS considering laying charges and imprisoning him for crimes committed there. Nope. Nothing at all. whistles
