Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

Those who were around in the early days of the news megathread may remember Pedro Castillo, the left-leaning leader of Peru who was deposed in December 2022. He was replaced by Dina Boluarte, the first woman to be President of Peru, who described herself as a progressive but afterwards routinely sided with Peruvian conservatives and American interests. To say she was unpopular is an understatement of titanic proportions - she descended to such lows that she was, at one point, the single most unpopular leader on the planet. As with most deeply unpopular leaders that side with the West, she kept power for a bafflingly long time.

However, on October 10th, after a period of protests against the government, she was impeached and removed by Peru's Congress in a unanimous vote. José Jerí was sworn in as the new President, who was previously the President of the Congress and is a member of a centrist Peruvian party. The government is trying the classic strategy: keep doing the same thing as before, and sacrifice an unpopular figure - here, Boluarte - in the hopes that this appeases the crowd.

Is this strategy working? It doesn't really seem to be - protests are not only continuing, but strengthening, as it is clear that neoliberalism will not reformed and the brutality by police will not stop (there was very recently a high-profile case in which a musician, Mauricio Ruiz, was murdered). Controversies surrounding Jerí, including allegations of SA, are already being reported. If Jerí is deposed, the next person in line to try their hand at ruling will be the former army general Roberto Chiabra, who would be the ninth President in less than a decade.

"Ukrainska Pravda has learnt that at least 250 Russian troops are in Pokrovsk

I don't get it, why does Ukraine so often leave their soldiers in locations that are clearly about to get encircled? Do the military commanders simply not care?

spoiler

– they are engaging in firefights and killing Ukrainian soldiers, particularly drone operators, at their positions. Logistics into the city are fully controlled by Russian drones, forcing Ukrainian soldiers to walk 10-15 km to reach their positions. The situation is beyond critical...

Two officers from a brigade defending the city confirmed that Russian troops have been shooting and killing Ukrainian UAV operators and engaging artillery and anti-tank units in direct combat inside the city...

Others, Ukrainska Pravda has found, exist only on maps – either occupied by wounded soldiers or abandoned entirely. Ukrainian defenders are facing a catastrophic shortage of infantry.

Quote from the first officer: 'Infantry is practically cut off from command. We can hear them on the radio and we try to deliver water to them with drones. They've been on the positions for two and a half to three months. For our brigade, that's long – we usually rotate people. In Pokrovsk itself, there are at least 250 of those bastards, probably more. There's fighting on almost every street; we have casualties every day.'"

Ukraine launched cruise missile strikes within Russia's internationally recognised borders using British-French made Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles, and posted such on their general staff twitter account.

On 21 October 2025, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in coordination with the Land Forces, the Navy, and other units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine, struck the Bryansk Chemical Plant.

A massive combined missile and air strike was carried out, including the use of air-launched Storm Shadow missiles, which successfully penetrated the Russian air defence system.

Source

Strom Shadow/SCALP-EG is again being used for strikes on internationally recognised Russian territory, with Ukraine bragging about it publicly. Also there were more targets than just the chemical plant in Bryansk (a substation and ammunition depot were also targeted), so the statement is incorrect in it's implication that just the chemical plant was targeted.

China, Russia building NatGas pipelines for energy previously headed to Europe, with lower prices | Inside China Business

Massive new natural gas pipelines are in construction in the Russian East, connecting China to vast energy fields in Siberia and on Sakhalin.
When completed, Russia's exports to China will replace their markets in Western Europe, who have turned to more expensive LNG sourced from the United States.
China will also pay far lower prices for Russian natural gas, compared to Western Europeans now, and even for current European customers of Russian gas.
All this trade will naturally be outside the US dollar and Western banking systems, and therefore cannot be sanctioned or restricted by European regulators.

Bolivia got suspended from ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, an intergovernmental organization based on the idea of political and economic integration of Latin American and Caribbean countries.)

In 2025, following Rodrigo Paz's victory in the Bolivian general election, the president-elect declared that he was not interested in maintaining relations with countries “that do not have democracy,” in reference to Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. As a result of these statements, the organization suspended Bolivia on October 24, 2025, arguing “pro-imperialist and colonialist behavior” and considering the statements made against the aforementioned countries unacceptable.

Evo Morales: "Paz and Lara won with the Evo vote, the vote of those outraged by their proscription and electoral exclusion. The 1.3 million spoiled votes decided the second round. It's clear that the vote went mostly against Tuto, the eternal loser, 'son' of the dictator Banzer and ally of Jeanine Añez. Lucho's government banned me."

"And the people banned the traitors at the polls. The people of the working-class neighborhoods and rural areas, since they didn't have their candidate, had no choice but to vote for Paz and Lara. But they don't give them a blank check. It's a vote with a mandate to prevent him from destroying the Plurinational State and all the great social transformations and achievements; to prevent him from implementing neoliberal measures and submitting to imperialism; to prevent him from being repressive; to prevent him from criminalizing social protest; and to govern by consulting the people."

I can’t get archive.is to work right so I can’t link the Bloomberg article, but Ethiopia is currently in negotiations with China on converting $5.38 billion in USD-denominated loans owed to China over to yuan. This is on the heels of a similar deal China negotiated with Kenya last month.

It’s possible this is just all strategic, as China may recognize the pressure having USD-denominated debt places on these countries so they are giving them a break to reduce risk of insolvency. But certainly can’t rule out that at least a part of this is geared towards gradual de-dollarization.

China doesn’t need more USD but they are also trapped by it, not much they can do with other than loan it out.

Nazi dorks continue to terrorize Chicago. I remember someone posted a photo shoot of the guy with the white crew cut doing his best 1940's nazi impressions, but googling variations of "ice nazi guy" simply aren't narrow enough search terms to find this specific chud. Edit: This guy

And not to give the impression that they're just bumbling incompetent losers, I mean they are, but I am unfortunately still seeing daily reports of people being abducted, including entire landscaping crews and multiple people dragged from their cars.

Head of Hamas in Gaza, Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya, to Al-Jazeera:

“The occupation failed to achieve its goals over two years of war.

President Trump said the war was over, and every day we hear American statements that the war is over.

We will not give the occupation a pretext to resume the war.

We handed over 20 "israeli" captives 72 hours after the ceasefire.

We handed over 17 out of 28 bodies of the occupation's captives.

New areas will be entered on Sunday to search for some of the bodies of the occupation's captives.

We have no reservations about any national figure residing in Gaza managing the Strip.

We will hand over all reins of administration in the Gaza Strip, including security, to the administration committee.

We agreed with the Fatah Movement on the issue of UN forces for separation and monitoring the ceasefire.

We agreed with all factions that the mission of the UN body is reconstruction in Gaza.

We want to go to elections as a prelude to reunifying the national ranks.

We are one people, and we want one authority and one government.

I informed Greenblatt and Kushner during the meeting with them that we are advocates of stability.

I told Greenblatt and Kushner that President Trump is capable of restraining the "israeli" occupation.

Targeting Doha and the disastrous and unprecedented failure in the history of "israel" constituted a setback for the occupation.

Our weapons are linked to the existence of the occupation and aggression, and if the occupation ends, this weapon will devolve to the state.

The issue of weapons is still under discussion with the factions and mediators, and the agreement is still in its early stages.

We will not take a position without the agreed-upon national position.

We accept UN forces as separation forces, border monitors, and ceasefire observers in Gaza.“

If they’re really committing to regime change in Venezuela the shutdown is not going to last much longer . It’s likely it will end with the 60 vote threshold being bypassed they will end the shutdown with a simple majority. Or trump will throw Schumer a bone and the dems will just let this happen

LAND FOR THE MACHINE-GOD https://archive.ph/UE3GF

US Air Force to lease base land for private AI data centers

The Department of the Air Force seeks to lease thousands of acres of land at five bases to private firms to build their own artificial intelligence data centers.

more

The department posted a solicitation online Tuesday asking for proposals to develop land, which it called “underutilized,” at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, Edwards Air Force Base in California, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. The solicitation was first reported by Breaking Defense. “AI is transforming the modern world, and these data centers are crucial for America to remain at the forefront of innovation,” Robert Moriarty, the Air Force’s deputy assistant secretary for installations, said in a statement provided to Defense News. The Air Force made this move in response to executive orders President Donald Trump issued in January and July that seek to speed up the nation’s adoption of AI technology and construction of the massive data centers that technology requires. The July executive order calls for the Defense Department to identify sites on military installations that could be used for data center infrastructure and then competitively lease the land.

When asked if the data centers would be used for Air Force or military AI projects, or those run by outside organizations, an Air Force official responded, “This is an opportunity for outside organizations.” The Air Force has set a Nov. 14 deadline for companies to submit their proposals, and will make a selection or selections next January. After the award, the Air Force said, it will conduct environmental assessments and the design will be developed and refined. The lease proposal request detailed about 3,100 acres across the five bases that could be used to build data centers. More than 2,100 of those acres are located at Edwards, a massive installation in the California desert often used for testing new aircraft such as the B-21 Raider bomber and the T-7 Red Hawk trainer. To qualify, a project must require more than 100 megawatts of new load and be worth at least $500 million, among other requirements. The leases will not be for longer than 50 years, unless the company leasing the land wants a longer lease and the government decides it is in the government’s interest or promotes national defense.

looking forward (again, in a matt-joker way) to the US starting WW3 and all its military bases losing power immediately because the AI data-centers they built on their land eat up all the grid capacity

I don't even know why this suddenly got into my feed, but it is quite funny;

spoiler1;

Andrey Biletskiy, commander of the Azov Corps, complained that all McDonald's employees in Ukraine are exempt from military conscription. The # of MacDonald's restaurants in Ukraine has increased in recent years. They can get low cost labor while other businesses say they can't

2;

Even on a day when much of Kyiv is without electricity, there’s light - and optimism - here at the Kyiv Zoo. @McDonalds has just opened its 50th restaurant in Kyiv, running on a generator and full of families looking for warmth, food, and connection.

Opening a new restaurant during a war is more than a business decision — it’s a statement of resilience, hope, and community. In the face of challenges, McDonald’s continues to show what it means to keep going. I’m lovin it - and inspired by it 💙💛

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The International Olympic Committee has recommended global sports federations cease holding events in Indonesia after the country barred Israeli athletes from the ongoing gymnastics world championships in Jakarta.

spoiler

The IOC’s executive board issued a statement Wednesday saying it was also ending “any form of dialogue” with Indonesia about hosting future Olympic events.

An Indonesian government official declared earlier this month that Israeli athletes would be denied visas to participate in the world championships, which started last Sunday and run through this weekend

“These actions deprive athletes of their right to compete peacefully and prevent the Olympic movement from showing the power of sport,” the IOC’s executive board said.

Warning From Economists: Reckless Spending And Tax Cuts Projected To Send Danish Economy In Tailspin

A council of bourgeois economists advising Denmark's Social Democrat-led right-wing regime has issued a stark warning: The Nordic hermit kingdom's era of budget surpluses is set to end, with public finances projected to plunge into deficit by 2029. This forecast, a sharp reversal from earlier predictions of a modest surplus, points to a potent mix of unfunded tax cuts and a massive, opaque military buildup as some if the leading causes of the fiscal collapse.

While necessary green transition spending and routine benefit adjustments contribute to the fiscal malaise, the core of the problem lies elsewhere. A costly, unfinanced tax reform that benefits the employed while bypassing pensioners and the unemployed, and a dramatic surge in military expenditure exempt from standard fiscal oversight mechanisms.

The fiscal outlook is further clouded by expectations of lower revenue from corporate and capital gains taxes as the economy cools. At the same time, tax deductions for homeowners' interest payments are projected to consume a growing share of GDP, as rising interest rates increase and property values are rising.

The most significant pressure, however, comes from the regime's aggressive militarization. The regime is funneling significant sums to traffic arms to the Kiev regime, prolonging the US-Russian proxy war in Ukraine. Domestically, it has launched a military expansion campaign with military spending set to exceede Cold War heights, justified by a campaign of jingoism, fear, and paranoia.

This spending spree lacks all transparency. A group of leading economists, including Frederik I. Pedersen, chief economist for the 3F union, has publicly criticized the opaque process.

“It is a complete black box what is going on with the defense expenditures,” Pedersen stated, noting that no one can accurately account for past military spending or future commitments. By exempting these vast sums from standard oversight, the regime adds concerns about waste and corruption on top of those of fiscal recklessness.

When confronted, the regime has dismissed such criticism. Troels Lund Poulsen, the powerful head of the Liberal Party-controlled Ministry of Defense, made the striking claim that the Danish public "can't afford not to" proceed with this grandiose militarization.

Faced with the looming crisis, the regime's economic advisors now propose to balance the books not by curbing military excess or reversing tax cuts for key voter demographics, but by cancelling a proposed and popular pension reform. This reform would have allowed Danish workers, who already face one of the world's highest retirement ages, to convert some of the gains in average life expectancy into more years of retirement rather than more years of work as is the case today.

Thus, as billions flow unchecked to arms dealers and tax breaks for regime supporters remain sacrosanct, ordinary Danes are being told they must foot the bill by working longer and accepting the steady degradation of their welfare state.

Michael Kovrig warns of China’s ‘diplomatic wrapping paper’ as Carney pursues deeper ties

Staging for more bomber flights around Venezuela taking place, with mid air refueling aircraft being moved to MacDill Air Base, Florida. Speculated to be for B-1B bombers this time by flight tracking enthusiasts. (Refueling aircraft are signalling that they're part of operations for the 7th Bomb Wing, which operates the B-1).

Source

The US also explicitly called the previous B-52 flights off of the coast of Venezuela a "bomber attack demo", escorted by F-35s. F-35s were operating without Luneburg lenses/radar reflectors in a stealth configuration, despite the externally mounted AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder missiles (stealthy pylons). B-52s were operating without external pylons for AGM-158 JASSM type cruise missiles, meaning that the maximum capacity was 8 JASSM per B-52 all internally, instead of the maximum of 20 when equipped with external pylons. B-1Bs can carry a maximum of 24 JASSMs, all internally.

Source

There are also 2 E-3 AWACS aircraft at McDill, and there are often squadrons of EA-18G Growler EW/SEAD aircraft at Naval Air Station Key West, Florida, they train there.

The US Navy has also moved three replenishment oilers (ships that resupply and refuel combat ships at sea) to the Carribean, indicating that they're preparing to spend an extended time out to sea, instead of resupplying at ports.

Source

Also, the semi submersible vessel that was sunk by the US military, was likely targeted using the autocannon or howitzer of an AC-130J Ghostrider gunship. That would explain why there were survivors in that particular strike when compared to previous strikes that reportedly used AGM-114 Hellfire missiles or even 500lb bombs.

US, Australia sign rare earth, mineral agreement as China tightens supply

United States President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese have signed an agreement on rare earth and critical minerals as China tightens control over global supply.

The two leaders signed the deal on Monday at the White House.

Trump said the agreement had been negotiated over four or five months. The two leaders will also discuss trade, submarines and military equipment, Trump said.

Albanese described it as an $8.5bn pipeline “that we have ready to go”.

A copy of the agreement, provided by the prime minister’s office, said the two countries will each invest $1bn over the next six months into mining and processing projects. They also set a minimum price floor for critical minerals, a move that Western miners have long sought

I can’t find detail anywhere regarding specifics, but I have to imagine $2 billion is a drop in the bucket of what it would take to bypass China in the production of rare earth minerals. The story also mentions how I guess Australia is a little embarrassed at sending the US billions for submarines that they may never get (but not get a refund on those billions) so maybe Australia is trying to get some subs in exchange for pretending to be able to impact the rare earth minerals market?

“Palestinian factions begin bilateral meetings in Cairo, leading to a collective session tonight focused on achieving a national consensus program.

Hamas, PIJ, PFLP, DFLP, PFLP-GC, PNI, and Dahlan's current will participate. Fatah will not participate and is meeting separately with Egyptian intelligence to discuss the "israeli" vision for the next phase and the role of the Palestinian Authority in it.

Factions unanimously reject proposals for "international guardianship" in Gaza. Factions requested precise clarifications on the nature of "external forces" in Gaza.

The issue of resistance weapons is confirmed to be non-negotiable at this sensitive stage. Lastly, the factions meetings will discuss the Community Support Committee that will run Gaza; factions are united on the names of the ~30 Palestinians on the committee.

A delegation from the Islamic Jihad Movement (PIJ), led by Secretary-General Ziyad Al-Nakhaleh, met with the head of Egyptian General Intelligence in Cairo. Discussions focused on the situation in Gaza, securing aid entry, and stabilizing the ceasefire. PIJ affirmed its commitment to the ceasefire and demanded the occupation cease all violations and ensure aid delivery to the Strip.“

In Jakarta, Presidente Lula da Silva criticized the US offensive under the pretext of combating drug trafficking and advocated respect for the sovereignty of countries.

Lula arrived in Malaysia this Friday (24) to participate in a meeting with Asian leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). This is the second destination of his weeklong trip through Asia. He first visited Indonesia, where he was welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto, where Prabowo offered Lula a birthday party to commemorate Lula's 80th birthday and the Brazilian-Indonesian peoples' friendship.

According to Lula, he will discuss with President Trump the US attacks on boats off the coast of Venezuela. Lula and Trump are expected to meet in Malaysia this Sunday. The US president also admitted to having authorized secret operations by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Nicolás Maduro's country.

For the Brazilian president, "if the world becomes a lawless land, it will be very difficult." Lula suggested as an alternative that the US be willing to talk to the police and Ministries of Justice of other countries.

"I think there's a lack of understanding of the issue of international politics," Lula said of Trump's statement that he will "only kill the people who are bringing drugs into his country."

“If this trend catches on, everyone will think they can invade each other's territory to do whatever they want. Where will the word ‘respect for the sovereignty of countries’ come from? So I intend to discuss these issues with President Trump.”

The Brazilian president also mentioned that the US president cannot simply say he will invade and "fight drug trafficking in 'other people's land'" without taking into account the countries' Constitutions.

The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Gravely (DDG-107) arrived in Trinidad and Tobago, an island located very close to Venezuela. The small island of Trinidad and Tobago is only 13 km away from Venezuela, separated only by a narrow strip of sea.

CIA Weighs Shuttering China Center as Trump Shifts Focus to Venezuela

Reflecting the administration’s pivot, the Central Intelligence Agency is now considering dissolving its China Mission Center, according to two sources familiar with the matter, as part of a broader realignment that de-emphasizes confrontation with China.

Sources say that the CIA is thinking about shutting down the China center, in part, for its ineffectiveness, having consumed vast resources with little to show for it. This comes in the wake of one of the CIA’s worst intelligence failures in its history. Between 2010 and 2012, Chinese counterintelligence wiped out the CIA’s network of informants, killing or imprisoning nearly twenty people and destroying years of espionage work, the New York Times reported in 2017. More than a decade later, the agency has yet to fully recover. (The CIA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

spoiler

The U.S. is temporarily stepping back from its Cold War with China and channeling its aggression toward Venezuela, reflecting the limits of American power.

For years, the United States built its foreign policy consensus around confronting China. Washington’s overriding goal, across administrations, has been to preserve a global order it no longer commands – launching a trade war against China, rallying the public with anti-China propaganda, and pitting Chinese and American workers against each other.

President Donald Trump has carried that project forward. His China policy looks just as aggressive on paper, as he continues to threaten trade war against the world’s second-largest economy. But behind closed doors, reality is setting in. Having hit the ceiling of confrontation with China, the Trump administration is quietly redirecting energy from that front, at least temporarily, and pivoting toward war with Venezuela – framing a renewed push for regime change and anti-cartel operations as the next front in “national security.”

Since my source got banned in America and my computer literally caught on fire, I’ve been more disconnected from the internal security operations in Gaza. In addition to targeting traitors, traders/war profiteers have been shut down and their wares confiscated/reduced in price. This is after putting out a call for “popular surveillance” based on community tips.

“Based on citizens' complaints about a number of merchants raising the prices of food commodities and hoarding them after the government announced the closure of the crossings, and based on instructions, the Supply Investigations Department, in collaboration with the Special Investigation Unit, carried out a campaign against violating warehouses and shops, during which (10) warehouses and shops were closed.

The closure included: ~

  1. Warehouses of the merchant 》》Youssef Tawfiq Khaled. J

  2. Warehouses of the merchant 》》Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah. Al-N

  3. Warehouses of the merchant 》》Ezzat Youssef Mahmoud. K

  4. Supermarket of the merchant 》》Ashraf Kamal Salem Al-Z

  5. Supermarket of the merchant 》》Mohamed Ali Hassan. T

  6. Shops of the merchant 》》Abdul Razzaq Nimr Abdul Hadi A.

  7. The shop of the merchant 》》Ahmed Tawfiq Ahmed Abu. J.

  8. The shop of the merchant 》》Saif Abdel Karim B.

  9. The shop of the merchant 》》Mazen Muhammad Abu. L.

  10. The shop of the merchant 》》Hazem Khaled Al. B.

During the tour, 58 bags of flour weighing 25 kg were seized inside the shop of 》》Amjad Sobhi Abu. H.

He was ordered to sell at the official price instead of selling the bag for 100 shekels.”
