Fascists need to project an image of strength on both themselves and their enemy

If either are perceived as weak that hurts their support, because they spend all this time painting themselves as a necessary solution to something even worse.

The people in Portland are doing exactly the right thing

Mock the fascists & make them look ridiculous. It completely fucks up the entire plan.

They just have parental issues. It's why they're all about having an authoritarian dictator and a powerful state. The miss having a mother do everything for them, or they have a deep yearn for the father they never had.

Then a strong figure like Benito stands up and say, "Don't worry! I am here and I will take care of everything for you. All I need is your unconditional love and you will get mine in return."

".....Pa....Papa? 🥹"

Welcome back, Sigmund Freud.

No one wanted to hear about hero's journey until the subconscious capacity for genital and anal humor was acknowledged fully.

From someone in a family of people who watch far right news daily, this literally doesn't work. I ask "remember when they peacefully protested?" and they say "I haven't heard about that." I say "this person fought back after ice pepper sprayed them" and they say "well I didn't see that." Then the INSTANT 1/2,000,000 people does something even remotely violent, they talk about that for the next 3 years. You aren't dealing with someone being fair, you're dealing with someone who is trying to do the political equivalent of papering you out the door. Do whatever is right without worrying what the people who are paid to create propaganda will say, your good actions will never be spoken by them and if not you some other scapegoat will be found.

This is how imperialist states shape narratives. When Gandhi was going on salt marches, the British wanted to focus the narrative on militant freedom fighters like Baghat Singh. The US government used Malcolm X's advocacy for the use of violence in self defense to discredit the entire civil rights movement. These are two of the relatively rare examples where the empire / state ultimately didn't get their way. Most of the time they do.

This is how they shape narratives and ultimately history. The people you speak of are pawns of the state. Social media and Fox news is their soma and they consume it willingly because it not only allows them to turn a blind eye to injustice, it gives them a sense of moral righteousness in it.

Keep speaking the truth. There are many who agree with you and support you.

...And when they did fail, they switched to only talking about the pacifists, and telling everyone only non-violence ever works.

We should never oppose oppression because our actions can potentially be used to do more oppression this is totally a valid take and not an excuse to stand for nothing.

I don't know if anyone's ever noticed but there's always been lot of "be good citizens" propaganda on news, movies, ads, and now widespread with memes on the Internet.

They want us to be docile and be the good guys, always afraid to offend someone, even when they trample on you. While they go on to do and spread the worst of humanity and then laugh at us.

[–] commie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

fuck that. fight fascism. any time any place.

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

With bricks, or fists, or pipes, or guns, or knives, or teeth. Fight them till your last breath and with every ounce of rage and malice you can muster.

Welcome to the spiral of despair and complacency.

If you do something you get a(n even more) tyrannical fascist dictatorship now.
Orrrrrrrr, do nothing and get a fascist dictatorship (with slightly less tyranny) soon.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

See I don’t think it’s saying “do nothing”.

I think it’s saying don’t murder. Right now.

There’s still all the other things to do

Proud Boys and Antifa have been fighting in Portland for like 20 years… i was pretty fucking surprised when they went national….
Also “Patriot Prayer” but that was just proud boys trying to rebrand and look more innocent…

It doesn't feel right that while people protest peacefully, immigrants are getting beaten, tortured, and deported illegally. It feels like people are okay with that as long as the government doesn't come for white people too.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I think that's just impossibly simple. Like, not possible.

[–] stinky@redlemmy.com 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Are you suggesting we don't fight back

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No. Yes. It depends.

Like are you set to just up and murder sone people, or are you like calling for a strike or something.

[–] stinky@redlemmy.com 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm worried about people losing willingness to resist oppression

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

We shou'd plan a 3-6 month party that is also a general strike.

[–] nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org 2 points 3 days ago

I'm saying let's work on potluck and roll out the classic antifascist dance hits.

Like shebop and footloose.

(my playlist needs more latin, dancehall, and reggae, taking recomendations.)

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Well yeah that’d be bad

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Inaction = fascism. Action = fascism.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

You take action, believe it or not, fascism. Inaction, also fascism. Action, inaction. You try to hold elections but not enough people show up, believe it or not, fascism, right away.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I think we're still a little ways from either suspending the Constitution or stone-cold blasting ICE heads off. I don't have a good answer though. That we have to answer this super fucked up bullshit at all should be such a simple thing.

I think the super-connectedness some of us experience is in enormous contrast to the unconnectedness most people experience. Aunt MAGA is brainwashed as fuck but not dead. There should be some room there. We've just been so sold out by the outlets that would normally help. We should already have free ubiquitous broadcast-quality distributed news networks not this corporate slavers ad-supported garbage.

The fact that Texas has already had three attempts to murder ICE goons is interesting, considering the army's never going there, because red states can't be allowed to see the embarrassing idiocy of putting soldiers on the streets for - show.

Someone says something someone else doesn't like. Someone else enacts violence against someone for saying something. The state uses forces to enforce the laws cos attacking people for speech is illegal. How could the state do this?
