As an aspiring brewer and avid beer geek, I would like to punt whichever subzero IQ dumbfuck decided this was a good idea INTO THE SUN.

We can't even have a beer judging competition without some techbros and their enablers trying to ram some AI slop down our collective throats. I started to despise the enablers more than the actual AI plonkers. It is painfully obvious that these slop generators don't work but they still decide to give AI companies access to their users and their data.

Craft beer market is oversaturated and needs less IPAs.

IPAs are the French toast of beer; created solely to cover up the awful taste

I've always assumed that. I'm not a brewer but the fact every micro/nano makes like 12 IPAs def has to do with it being cheaper to produce or easier to market it as 'high quality' when it isn't. I used to like IPA 20 years ago, but now it all tastes like hoppy piss water, apart from a few breweries I trust... who also commonly make other styles and are not IPA-only.

but any of my local beer stores like 80% of the selection is IPAs w/ elaborate can art and 'funky' names or flavors. i'm also seeing a ton of 'themed' breweries... all their beers are named after cats, or sports, or some other thing. and their beer is always awful.

We need a "fuck ipas" comm. They've completely choked out any other type of beer: stouts, brown ales, hefeweizen... There's one mainstream brand of each and that's it. Then 1000000 IPAs.

I rant about this regularly. It's really bad where I live.

Yeah I'm in New England and it's insane... every bar/restaurant has like 12-20 IPAs on the menu and 2-3 other beers if you are lucky. I started drinking wine/cocktails a lot more because of this nonsense.

I stopped drinking them years ago. For some reason, all the hops started to make me sneeze so I gave up on them. It's super annoying when I do want a beer that isn't a macro brew. A lot of bars just have a shitload of IPAs n maybe 2 other craft beers. I feel like it's gotten a bit better lately.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I just want a regular ale. Amber, American, whatever the hops should be a note not the only thing I can taste for a bit.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I only ever see standard ales in the fall seasonals. they are out for like 4-6 weeks and gone for another year.

It's time for the pilsner uprising

Return to cask ale. Embrace tradition.

I used to seek cask taps 10 years ago at bars. they are all gone now.

I have a need for mead.

The one thing I don't need from my beer drinking experience is an app. I have never needed an app to tell me what I like with beer. I know what styles I generally like and tasting is part of the experience. I went my local brewery on Friday and tried a sample of their Halloween themed beers. I enjoyed three our of the four and even the one I didn't enjoy the process was the part. Also the one I didn't like was exactly what I thought it would be.
