More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Now that the UK has recognised Palestine as a state, this opens legal routes for British members of the IDF to be charged in the UK

UK politics really confuses me. How can they be this way about the people committing Israel's genocide...while also treating the people protesting against Israel's genocide like they're terrorists?

Are the folks in charge, all schizophrenic?

Not the same people.

This article is a legal opinion. Not a government one. The gov has not admitted that a genocide is happening. Risk of one is still the closest they have gotten.

The current UK gov is consistent in their arsehollery if nothing else.

It means having an opinion was the only wrong answer! HA! Great, right?

Nope they're just wind socks that blow in the direction of public opinion and private interests.

Let's see it then.

Let's be honest, this is never going to happen. You have to understand the real politique rules that exist here: if you're brown and join a fighting force overseas - terrorist. If you're white - woah woah woah let's not get carried away here maybe they're just doing medical or logistics roles.

British citizens will still head over to Israel and fight for the IDF and then happily return freely to the UK afterwards. And not a damned thing will change 😥🙃.

Charge them. If the court wants to be wormy fine. Charge them. Make the courts confess their two-faced practices. Bring up the charges, make them show their bare behinds to the world, publicize far and wide. Talk about it. Make some noise.

I’m sure the DPP would love to live in a world where he had the resource to prosecute even in cases he didn’t think he had a chance.

It's not like the ones fighting in Lebanon were charged with anything, so yeah.

Hmmm, well i care about that zero.
