Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also xcancle.org (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

There's way too much going on right now for me to really focus on any one country this week. The aftermath of the fall of the Nepal government has, somewhat surprisingly, reverberated around the world, and not only in countries that are enemies to the West as you'd expect; for example, Morocco's government battle fiercely with Egypt's and Jordan's to be first in line to lick the dogshit off the boots of Zionists, and yet Morocco is currently embroiled in a large protest wave based primarily around a youth unemployment crisis (though their population is also remarkably pro-Palestinian, which generates additional friction). We're also seeing similar protests in Madagascar, Peru, and Paraguay, and perhaps more will come. I'm personally fairly doubtful in the potential for meaningful economic results from these protests (the current imperialist system seems too deeply embedded for a movement that isn't explicitly communist and anti-imperialist to alter conditions), but it is quite possible for new political results at least.

Outside of the developing world, it appears that the unpopularity of western leaders, such as in the UK, France, and Italy, is creating new levels of unrest. In Britain, the political system has become so utterly moribund that even the artificial democracy of a two-party system (more-or-less; the Lib Dems do exist I suppose) no longer suffices, with both Conservatives and Labour gradually sinking. The Reform party appears like it may become the new standard-bearer of the capitalists and petit-bourgeois - that is, the historical wellspring of fascism - and the Left Party (whatever name they eventually choose) may or may not rise to meet the occasion. In France, they're on their fifth Prime Minister in two years, after Lecornu lasted about a month, attempting the liberal classic: promising change, and then appointing the exact same people who have ruled for the last few decades. And pro-Palestinian protests and general strikes have erupted in Italy, in defiance of their rightwing government under Meloni.

While there's plenty of other events (e.g. continuing aggression against Venezuela that might soon erupt into a war) it would be remise of me not to mention the very much ongoing events vis-a-vis Palestine and a potential peace deal there, seemingly supported to some degree by Trump. It could be legitimate, and it could be some big act (very likely the latter, IMO). Both Trump and Netanyahu seem to believe that they're very talented political masterminds, producing manoeuvres and feints that would make Machiavelli blush. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I trust the militant organizations inside Palestine to outplay these American failsons. Hamas and similar groups are not nearly as gullible as the Iranian reformist faction - though few people are!

The Zionist Entity's Genocide of Palestine

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

China's Ministry of Transport: starting October 14, 2025, special port charges will be imposed on vessels owned by U.S. companies, organizations, or individuals. Special port charges to be levied on vessels operated by U.S. entities, vessels owned or operated by entities with 25%+ U.S. equity or control, vessels flying the U.S. flag, and vessels built in the U.S.

Full translationMinistry Announcement/Notice Announcement of the Ministry of Transport on Imposing Special Port Fees on U.S.-Flagged Vessels

On April 17, 2025, the Office of the United States Trade Representative announced Section 301 investigation measures targeting China's maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding industries. Effective October 14, 2025, additional port service fees will be imposed on vessels owned or operated by Chinese enterprises, Chinese-flagged vessels, and Chinese-built vessels. This action gravely violates relevant principles of international trade and the China-U.S. Maritime Transport Agreement, causing severe disruption to maritime trade between China and the United States.

Pursuant to the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on International Maritime Transport and other laws, regulations, and fundamental principles of international law, and with the approval of the State Council, effective October 14, 2025, the following measures shall apply: vessels owned or operated by enterprises, other organizations, or individuals in which U.S. enterprises, other organizations, or individuals directly or indirectly hold 25% or more equity (voting rights, board seats); vessels flying the U.S. flag; and vessels constructed in the United States. The maritime administration authority at the port of call shall be responsible for collecting the special port dues. Relevant matters are hereby announced as follows:

I. For the aforementioned vessels, the special port dues shall be levied per voyage on a phased basis, with the specific rates as follows (any fraction less than 1 net ton shall be rounded up to 1 net ton):

(1) For vessels berthing at Chinese ports on or after October 14, 2025, the rate shall be RMB 400 per net ton;

(2) For vessels calling at Chinese ports on or after April 17, 2026: RMB 640 per net ton;

(3) For vessels calling at Chinese ports on or after April 17, 2027: RMB 880 per net ton;

(4) For vessels calling at Chinese ports on or after April 17, 2028, the fee shall be RMB 1,120 per net ton.

II. Where a vessel calls at multiple Chinese ports during the same voyage, the special port fee shall be paid only at the first port of call. Subsequent ports of call shall not levy the fee. For the same vessel, the special port fee shall not be levied more than five times within a calendar year.

III. The Ministry will formulate specific implementation measures.

Ministry of Transport October 10, 2025

Venezuela calls for urgent UN Security Council meeting, citing imminent US attack. Colombian President Gustavo Petro claims that a boat blown up by the US off the coast of Venezuela was carrying Colombian citizens and says that Trump has created a war scenario. The White House denies this and says that Petro should apologize publicly to preserve relations with Washington.

Venezuela claims that the United States has positioned a nuclear submarine off the country's coast. US troops in the Caribbean begin to move. The United States requests authorization to send radars and troops to Maurice Bishop International Airport on the island nation of Grenada, near Venezuela. The Grenadian government says it is evaluating the request based on the “sovereignty of the country.” The Cuban government calls for international mobilization to prevent a US war against Venezuela.

Trump - Xi is a big meanie

“Some very strange things are happening in China! They are becoming very hostile, and sending letters to Countries throughout the World, that they want to impose Export Controls on each and every element of production having to do with Rare Earths, and virtually anything else they can think of, even if it’s not manufactured in China. Nobody has ever seen anything like this but, essentially, it would “clog” the Markets, and make life difficult for virtually every Country in the World, especially for China. We have been contacted by other Countries who are extremely angry at this great Trade hostility, which came out of nowhere. Our relationship with China over the past six months has been a very good one, thereby making this move on Trade an even more surprising one. I have always felt that they’ve been lying in wait, and now, as usual, I have been proven right! There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the World “captive,” but that seems to have been their plan for quite some time, starting with the “Magnets” and, other Elements that they have quietly amassed into somewhat of a Monopoly position, a rather sinister and hostile move, to say the least. But the U.S. has Monopoly positions also, much stronger and more far reaching than China’s. I have just not chosen to use them, there was never a reason for me to do so — UNTIL NOW! The letter they sent is many pages long, and details, with great specificity, each and every Element that they want to withhold from other Nations. Things that were routine are no longer routine at all. I have not spoken to President Xi because there was no reason to do so. This was a real surprise, not only to me, but to all the Leaders of the Free World. I was to meet President Xi in two weeks, at APEC, in South Korea, but now there seems to be no reason to do so. The Chinese letters were especially inappropriate in that this was the Day that, after three thousand years of bedlam and fighting, there is PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. I wonder if that timing was coincidental? Dependent on what China says about the hostile “order” that they have just put out, I will be forced, as President of the United States of America, to financially counter their move. For every Element that they have been able to monopolize, we have two. I never thought it would come to this but perhaps, as with all things, the time has come. Ultimately, though potentially painful, it will be a very good thing, in the end, for the U.S.A. One of the Policies that we are calculating at this moment is a massive increase of Tariffs on Chinese products coming into the United States of America. There are many other countermeasures that are, likewise, under serious consideration. Thank you for your attention to this matter!   DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 44 points 6 days ago

This goes even beyond that. They've been having an incredibly public trade war with China for a decade. This is "history starts now because I lack object permanence".

Qatar to build air force facility in Idaho, US says - BBC

The US has finalised an agreement that will allow Qatar to build an air force facility in Idaho, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced.

He said the facility - where pilots from the Gulf state would be trained to fly F-15 fighter jets - would be established at the Mountain Home Airbase in the north-western US state.

does Qatar even really need this. this feels like a bribe in the form of a land deal

Such a space, managed by a foreign ally, could be used to hide some things.

must have been a helluva explosion if all 19 missing are presumed dead rip-bozo

Bonus anecdote from someone on Reddit who lived nearby:

So, I’m local to this plant. This isn’t the first explosion here and they’re known to have abysmal safety. I’m talking stuff like welding above areas where explosives are mixed with no shielding whatsoever. They also, like most red states, pay absolutely nothing so nobody really cares about safety or doing their job correctly. The last one was 2014 I think. They also have minor issues every few years that don’t make the news. I know they have all kinds of “special training” and certifications but none of that gets enforced or used.

I recently heard that the current wave of crisis/revolutionary wave is having a significant impact on Ecuador, with even the mainstream outlets discussing the possibility of a government collapse (as happened in Peru) or a military coup (like the left-wing military coup in Ecuador in 2000). Daniel Noboa is very unpopular, he is basically a puppet of the US, and many Ecuadorians do not see him as "one of their own", or even as Latin American, since Noboa was born in Miami, US, in 1987. For this reason, most people say that he has no connection to the working class, or even to the middle or upper classes of Ecuadorian society. He hardly ever stays in the country, and most of his policies have been a huge failure, causing embarrassing situations at the international level, such as his crises with Mexico and Venezuela.

We will see if his government collapses or adopts a more authoritarian stance. Basically, they have no regional allies, Argentina can barely sustain itself, and Peru is too unstable to help Ecuador (besides, Peru fucking hates Ecuador, they have been at war over the border since the late 19th century, and their last war was in 1995).
