There's way too much going on right now for me to really focus on any one country this week. The aftermath of the fall of the Nepal government has, somewhat surprisingly, reverberated around the world, and not only in countries that are enemies to the West as you'd expect; for example, Morocco's government battle fiercely with Egypt's and Jordan's to be first in line to lick the dogshit off the boots of Zionists, and yet Morocco is currently embroiled in a large protest wave based primarily around a youth unemployment crisis (though their population is also remarkably pro-Palestinian, which generates additional friction). We're also seeing similar protests in Madagascar, Peru, and Paraguay, and perhaps more will come. I'm personally fairly doubtful in the potential for meaningful economic results from these protests (the current imperialist system seems too deeply embedded for a movement that isn't explicitly communist and anti-imperialist to alter conditions), but it is quite possible for new political results at least.

Outside of the developing world, it appears that the unpopularity of western leaders, such as in the UK, France, and Italy, is creating new levels of unrest. In Britain, the political system has become so utterly moribund that even the artificial democracy of a two-party system (more-or-less; the Lib Dems do exist I suppose) no longer suffices, with both Conservatives and Labour gradually sinking. The Reform party appears like it may become the new standard-bearer of the capitalists and petit-bourgeois - that is, the historical wellspring of fascism - and the Left Party (whatever name they eventually choose) may or may not rise to meet the occasion. In France, they're on their fifth Prime Minister in two years, after Lecornu lasted about a month, attempting the liberal classic: promising change, and then appointing the exact same people who have ruled for the last few decades. And pro-Palestinian protests and general strikes have erupted in Italy, in defiance of their rightwing government under Meloni.

While there's plenty of other events (e.g. continuing aggression against Venezuela that might soon erupt into a war) it would be remise of me not to mention the very much ongoing events vis-a-vis Palestine and a potential peace deal there, seemingly supported to some degree by Trump. It could be legitimate, and it could be some big act (very likely the latter, IMO). Both Trump and Netanyahu seem to believe that they're very talented political masterminds, producing manoeuvres and feints that would make Machiavelli blush. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I trust the militant organizations inside Palestine to outplay these American failsons. Hamas and similar groups are not nearly as gullible as the Iranian reformist faction - though few people are!

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

G*mer article from 17 years ago:

Chavez fears Mercenaries 2 as imperialist psyops … somewhere, an eagle smiles

What is shocking (and hilarious, and possibly chilling depending on your political slant) is Chavez’ reasoning behind his distrust of the gringos at Pandemic. Here’s a quote from one of his lackeys:

“I think the US government knows how to prepare campaigns of psychological terror so they can make things happen later.”

So … by allowing a games company within our country to develop a game loosely based on fictional scenarios, the government is creating an army of teens who will one day overthrow the Chavez regime in a quest to unlock the “Despot Deposed” Achievement? smuglord

(Subtext: I’d continue railing against Chavez’ paranoia, but that last sentence is probably more clever than anything else I’ll come up with today, so let’s just end there. — Nex)

Fun fact: Being a snot-nosed Mercenaries 1 fan eagerly awaiting the sequel was the first time I had ever heard about Hugo Chávez.

Mercenaries 2 was mid Just Cause but the commercial jingle is stuck in my head forever

Mercs 2 isn't about Chavez, its actually about the Belden Rules:

Always pay your guys brace-dark-cowboy

The story follows the player's hunt for Ramon Solano, a druglord who contracted the player's mercenary for a job. Following a militaristic coup, Solano becomes the dictator of Venezuela. He uses his position to seize control of the country's oil supply, resulting in an international incident and distress among OPEC. Alongside Solano's Rebel Forces, a large portion of the Venezuelan army fiercely support the dictator's cause.

The other rebel forces, in opposition to Solano, have risen under the name of the PLAV--the People's Liberation Army of Venezuela. Soon, numerous other factions join the fight for control of Venezuela's oil. Among them: The massive Universal Petroleum Corporation and its private military; the Rastafarian Pirates (the equivalent of the Russian Mafia), People's Liberation Army of Venezuela (PLAV), China's People's Liberation Army, and the Allied Nations.

The People's Liberation Army of Venezuela (abbreviated as P.L.A.V., PLAV, or just informally known as "Guerillas") are a group of left-wing radicals fighting a guerilla war against Ramon Solano's Venezuelan Government. They are present in the Amazonas region of Venezuela, and are constantly in a state of civil war with the Venezuelan Army. They're the second faction the mercenary will meet in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.

Their goals are to remove Ramon Solano and his government as well as the Universal Petroleum Corporation and restore the former government. They are a stereotypical guerrilla organization, using outdated, heavily modified equipment and prone to expressing their political views wherever they go. They are sponsored by China, and have access to some Chinese equipment. They are located to the South West of the map, in Merida, near Guanare and the surrounding jungles of the Amazonas.

The People's Liberation Army make a return in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames with the intent to install a pro-Chinese government in Venezuela and protect Chinese interests. They originally funded and used the People's Liberation Army of Venezuela as a proxy. However, it became clear that their leader, Marcela Acosta, was unable (or unwilling) to overthrow Solano's government. At the same time, the United States under the name of the Allied Nations intend on taking the oil for themselves. The PLA, under the command of the newly promoted General Peng, are under orders to seize control of the country and oil reserves. In Mercenaries 2, their HQ is the Castle of Saint Anthony and they control most of Cumana.

Goddamn they were injecting unfiltered propaganda straight into my veins as a kid

[–] TheLastHero@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Mostly, but I should note that at the PLAV (guerrilla) base there is a women constantly shouting legitimate Marxist theory (like she quotes the manifesto directly) while the western oil company UP is consistently portrayed as a bunch of greedy dumbasses. And if I recall the Chinese general character is low key way fairer to the player than the CIA asshole leading the Americans.

(I played way too much of that game in the past, though maybe it worked out as I am here ready to support the Bolivarian revolution chavez-salute )

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 25 points 3 days ago

TBH, they portray this as "Both Sides Bad", they openly say that the Allied Nations is literally just the US troops with "diplomatic support from the West". And the US was attempting to negociate a deal with Solano, but then the MC explodes an oil rig and the US decides to invade since Solano is a dumbass and Universal Petrolium mercenaries were unable to take over the country. China invades just a few hours later in response to the US invasion. Solano uses a North Korea Nuclear Weapon on China and the US to force them to pull out but he ends up getting killed or captured by the MC.

Pakistan vs the Taliban in Afganistan seems to be escalating, with the Taliban opening fire on the border and deploying Humvees to the Pakistan- Afghanistan border.

Taliban Humvees on the move

Someone from the Pakistani military is also leaking videos of strikes on the Taliban to the Faytuks accounts, which are getting posted.

Afghanistan has announced the end of it's attacks on Pakistan.

Pakistani Taliban (TTP) killed some Pakistani troops a few days ago. Pakistan responded with airstrikes against the TTP in Kabul, Afghanistan. Now the Taliban is responding to those airstrikes.

Afghanistan and the Taliban is also getting closer with India, the Taliban foreign minister visited India a few days ago.

Afghanistan and the Taliban is also getting closer with India, the Taliban foreign minister visited India a few days ago.

That is also kind of just how Indian and Pakistani foreign policy works. One side establishes a relationship with another country? The other side develops one with whoever that new partners mortal enemy is. India started selling weapons to Armenia after Pakistan started selling weapons to Azerbaijan, for instance. I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see the Iranian-Indian relationship improve/grow post Pakistan-KSA defense pact.

“Execution of 15 people from Al-Damaghsa” with video coming shortly

This group had killed 5 security personnel. They are being dealt with presently

“A deterrent force strikes hard now at the Daghmash family and besieges the surroundings of the Jordanian Hospital

May God guide their steps and enable them against the occupation's henchmen”

Context for the executions

“A very painful and serious incident occurred this afternoon in Gaza City, specifically in the Tal al-Hawa area.

A young man named Mohammed Al-Muqayyad and four of his relatives went to their area to check on his uncle's house, but what was unexpected was that a group from the Daghmash family stopped them and asked: “What brings you to the area?” Then one of them called the army and informed them of their presence, and the shocking response was: “Should we eliminate them?” — and they were ordered to open fire!

Some of them were shot in the leg, abdomen, and back, and Mohammed was martyred and taken to Al-Maamadani Hospital.

Therefore, I urge everyone to be extremely cautious and not to approach areas where the army or armed groups are present, as the situation is unbearable, and recklessness at these moments may cost innocent lives.

May God have mercy on the martyr Mohammed and all those who were unjustly killed, and may God protect all our people.”

Hamas have also captured 17 other collaborators while reestablishing control over the strip

“After fierce clashes that took place last night and extended into this morning, the security forces "Resistance Security" managed to arrest 17 members of the Al-Mansi gangs, including the first assistant to the gang leader in northern Gaza.”

Watching reddit turn on the nobel prize winner when they find out she dedicated the prize to trump has been interesting

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 51 points 3 days ago (1 children)

On r/pics I saw that there were high upvote comments calling her a Zionist. No one calling out how her domestic political positions are garbage though, since reddit still buys the narrative that Maduro is a dictator. Strangely, r/196 is usually lib central but I saw people explaining how she is a neoliberal far right candidate to others. I think being aligned with Trump is the main reason these comprador figures get any skepticism from the US center left, if they were more Democratic aligned they would be seen as heroes, but it's good that people can learn a little about how imperialism works.

Taliban troops appear to be taking from the HTS school of combat propaganda (pics and videos of corpses and captured positions) while Pakistan uses the Russian/American/Israeli style (aerial footage of drone/air/artillery strikes). Probably just the technological difference but I thought it was interesting

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Interesting to compare the two forms of combat propaganda used by mostly well-armed or US-backed groups (HTS, Israel), trying to show off the incredible violence they can inflict vs. resistance propaganda that emphasizes David vs. Goliath style operations using a lot of first-person combat footage, showing the fundamentally unequal footing and perseverance despite that.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 22 points 3 days ago

I think they have different goals. The US-backed groups are trying to cause morale collapse in the opposing forces to make taking positions easier whereas the resistance groups are largely posting for recruiting and maintaining morale in the resistance by demonstrating successful operations.

If the resistance forces of Palestine had any hope of causing a morale collapse in their opponent and a total victory I think you'd see quite a different approach in their posting.

With the reports that the GOP isn’t planning on making an exception to provide paychecks for troops during the shutdown I can only assume any major action on Venezuela will not occur until the shutdown is over (or until the executive simply bypasses congress and consolidates power instead which I’m also thinking might happen at this point)

The fact that this particular repulsive freak "country" can commit genocide for two years and be openly protected by FIFA while the Russians were expelled the femtosecond they stepped over the Ukrainian border is so unspeakably disgusting that I quite literally cannot find the words to describe it here.

Death to "Israel". Death to FIFA. Death to the European Union.

about that factory that blew up https://xcancel.com/ripplebrain/status/1976699650351477152

This company is a manufacturer of TNT for the DoD. They also make anti-personnel mines, shaped charges, and components for artillery shells. Two weeks ago they signed a contract to produce TNT as part of a larger deal to increase production of 155mm artillery shells. This single contract is worth more than every other contract they've ever signed with the DoD, combined.

This is happening in conjunction with a new contract given to Rheinmetall to produce 155mm shells for "an unnamed Eastern European country." The shells AES was contracted to deliver were likely headed to Ukraine. AES appears to be the primary (or perhaps only) US "manufacturer" of TNT for artillery shells. It isn't clear how much of their TNT is imported from overseas. Last year the army awarded a $435m contract to build the first large scale TNT plant on US soil since the 1980s. The new plant isn't due to come online until the end of 2028

deeply unserious country, "oh yeah we actually have to import the materials to make FUCKING ARTILLERY SHELLS" (The US is finally going to make a key explosive at home, and that's good news for the military), no wonder you're having trouble scaling up shell production when you CAN'T EVEN FULLY MANUFACTURE THEM AT HOME, LITERALLY ONE OF THE MOST RESOURCE-RICH COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD agony-shivering

looking forward (in a matt-joker sort of way) to the US starting WW3 and instantaneously every single military industry factory in the country (which is apparently, like, about a dozen) just cartoonishly collapsing

also came across this great comment https://xcancel.com/CryptoJoe42069/status/1976819621836836948

The Soviet mind cannot comprehend this. How an industrial site of strategic national importance is not only not nationalized but is just some warehouse looking corrugated roof dollar general looking mfer. This shit is supposed be concrete nuclear blast proof behind 5 km quarantine zone inside a town that’s not on any maps.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 49 points 3 days ago

I was reading comments from people who live nearby this facility saying it's notorious for having absolutely no regard for safety. One that stood out to me was that they supposedly allowed welding directly above explosive material handling areas in the building. Who need sabotage when there's absolutely no regard for worker safety to begin with?

Today the Brazilian Army and Air Force held a joint demonstration in Roraima (near the Venezuelan Border) as part of Operation Atlas 2025, considered the largest military exercise ever conducted in Brazil. The activity brought together troops, armored vehicles, tanks, weapons, and aircraft to showcase the Armed Forces' response capabilities in protecting the Amazon, a strategic region for the country.

The operation is taking place at a time of heightened military tensions between the United States and Venezuela, with repercussions for other countries in the region. The Brazilian government denies that its operation has any connection with tensions in the neighboring country and says that the action had been planned since 2024.

The Minister of Defence, José Mucio, said he fears that the crisis between Venezuela and the US could reach Brazil's border; “We are concerned, as I said, about our border, so that it does not suffer and does not turn our border into a trench. Brazil is a peaceful country. We invest in weapons, in our forces, to defend our culture, our people. We are not planning on stealing or invading anyone else's land."

More Venezuela developments.

An AC-130J Ghostrider Close Air Support aircraft has arrived in Puerto Rico, armed with 8x AGM-114 Hellfire air to surface laser guided missiles, and the 30mm GAU-23 autocannon and 105mm M102 Howitzer visible. Small Diameter Bombs (SDB, GBU-39 and GBU-53) can also be fitted instead of Hellfires. The aircraft also has internal launch tubes for anti tank guided missiles and 60lb class glide bombs.

4x MH-6 Little Bird and 3x MH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were also conducting military exercises on the coast of Trinidad and Tobago on October 8th, photographed. Commonly associated with US special operations forces in the Middle East. The MV Ocean Trader SOCOM ship in the Caribbean can be used to launch helicopters.

Venezuela have deployed Chinese YLC-18 3D low altitude S-band (2-4GHz) surveillance radars to pre prepared sites around the capital Caracas. Due to the topography in the area, such radars are important for detecting low flying cruise missiles or helicopters. It's not an "anti stealth" radar.

Ecuador, 20 days of protests - Prensa Latina

Article

Protests in Ecuador have now been going on for 20 days, with roadblocks in some parts of the highlands, in rejection of Daniel Noboa's government and its economic measures, especially the increase in the price of diesel.

According to the latest report from the ECU 911 Integrated Security Service, the provinces of Imbabura and Pichincha are seeing the most roadblocks this Saturday due to protests organized by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie).

Last night, hundreds of people marched in northern Quito to protest the repression by the security forces of the inhabitants of San Miguel del Común, a town north of the capital.

Conaie issued a statement referring to the “serious events” that occurred in that community, where “for more than 12 hours, the National Police and the Armed Forces carried out an operation of repression, state violence, and infiltration.”

The uniformed officers violently entered the territory, fired at homes, threw tear gas into homes, and terrorized entire families, including women, children, and the elderly, the indigenous movement said.

For its part, the National Police denied that there were infiltrators in San Miguel del Común, stating that the officers were conducting a search authorized by the competent authority, following an alert about the alleged storage of pyrotechnic material and explosives in the area.

Meanwhile, thousands of military personnel were deployed in Quito the day before in the context of the protests to “guarantee the country's security, protect strategic infrastructure, and maintain public order.”

A march by various social sectors is expected in the capital city on Sunday, October 12, from Villaflora, in the south of the city, to El Arbolito Park in the center.

The National Transit Agency warned that it is prohibited to use public or commercial transportation to transport protesters to Quito or other cities, as severe penalties will be applied if collaboration or logistical support is evident.

The national strike, led by the indigenous movement, began on September 22 in protest against the end of the diesel subsidy, although they are also demanding a reduction in value-added tax (VAT), greater investment in health and education, and an end to repression.

Some 50 international human rights organizations on the continent condemned in a public letter the excessive use of force by security forces in response to social protests.

The government, for its part, insists that the economic measures are necessary and has reiterated that it will not back down on the elimination of the subsidy, a decision that triggered the current wave of protests, nor is it willing to engage in dialogue with “a minority” that does not represent the country.

Macron to travel to Egypt to support peace plan in Gaza - Prensa Latina

Article

French President Emmanuel Macron will be in Egypt on Monday to support the recently agreed peace plan in the Gaza Strip, the Élysée Palace announced today.

In a statement, the Presidency specified that during his trip, the French head of state will ratify France's mobilization to achieve stability in the region, after Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas agreed this week to the ceasefire promoted by US President Donald Trump.

Paris also reiterated Macron's interest in ensuring that regional peace and stability are based on the two-state solution. The president will emphasize his support for the implementation of the first phase of the agreement reached by Trump, Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye, aimed at implementing a cessation of hostilities, the release of all hostages, and the promotion of humanitarian aid in Gaza, he added.

Similarly, the Élysée Palace stressed that Macron's presence in the North African country is part of the initiative by France and Saudi Arabia discussed in September in New York, in the context of the UN General Assembly.

At that time, the French leader officially recognized the Palestinian state, in an effort in which he urged other Western governments to do the same.
