I played a lot of it in rehab and got quite good at it. It's kind of like bowling in a way but with more finesse. Plus you can play it with a drink of your choice in your hand, so give me a cola since I'm sober.

a neighbor introduced me to it once.. it was a great way to get to know people while playing something mildly competitive and not at all strenuous

That's exactly why I liked it, it's the perfect fuck around game.

I nice aspect of it is that everyone is standing near each other, and nothing mentally or physically strenuous is going on, so that you can just talk with each other.

Pretty much, I made friends with the other guys doing it.

My grandpa would always get called out for cheating at that game at family gatherings.

Cheating at casual games at family gatherings is an as*hole move but simultaneously I respect the hustle. Truly your grandfather is a land of contrasts.

I associate Bocce with group car camping trips with family friends as a child. It's a great game to try playing in different natural environments.

I love the way the natural environment becomes part of the game. When we were kids, we would wander out into the woods and find interesting areas to play it.

Bocce/petanque is amazing and played it a lot as a kid. I want to get back into it

when I played it in rehab we just did house rules for scoring and keeping track of a game, still fun otherwise.

I played Bocce at a retirement community once while I was visiting someone else's grandpa, and at the end of that day I had 4 grandpas. I went from zero grandpas to 4, thanks bocce!

You can get to know people pretty well playing that game for half a day.

That's so wholesome and sweet I love it.
