The Onion just can't handle the same amplitude of craziness as the real world.
That has always been a problem for comedy.
The Onion sounds more plausible a lot of the time.
The thing about fiction is that it has to make sense. Reality is under no such constraint.
Maybe back in 2019, but now the Onion is the only one telling honest news, while the billionaire-bought media is suspiciously silent on so many matters...
I miss Jon Stewart, at least from Tuesday through Sunday! :-P
Their most recent article isn't even satire. Just the truth. The article about putin going unpunished over killing his political opponent.
Since 2016 this has become more difficult.
You've described the entire existence of The Onion and satire. It is a lens upon society. It always was and is this. That's why it is so important.
