Yeah, it's cringe even if he's doing it in character as a boomer (who probably wouldn't know that word originates from a slur, or that the G-word is a slur to begin with).
it's entirely possible he doesn't know it's a slur/derived from a slur.
That's not a defense, his editor or any of the people who see these before publication should've caught it.
