General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Good. Fuck off big pharma.

[We] would like to get rid of the clawback scheme … which charges us for our own success,

Your own exploitation, you mean?

Something like 95% of all meaningful pharmaceutical breakthroughs come from public academia

More than anyone else, I really struggle to see any humanity in spin-doctors from the pharmaceutical industry. I'd say it's pretty clearly inhumane to gouge the sick for profit.

That's the best headline I've heard about the UK in ages!

I've heard it's gotten worse since Brexit

That's just because musk visited for 15 minutes and sucked up significant fraction of the total supply.

Great news!

Our response should be to negotiate on copyright / trademark laws or whatever allows their fake monopolies then. If you don't sell it at a reasonable cost we'll allow others to make it for us as genetics

Know what UK really needs right now?
New experimental drugs.

Yep.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Tbf, those new cancer drugs do work wonders.

The article doesn't mention experimental

Although we shouldn't fold to their demands.

I can see Streeting rolling over if the press play this story too much, which would mean saying good bye to price controls on medicines.

Here I am two weeks in the future confirming my predictions, as the UK gov is accepting higher drug prices from the US to placate Trump.

No it's the opposite in this case. This article is about a company crying because they want to charge more

[–] rmrf@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Thanks. Apparently I didn't even read the headline

Drugs here are cheap as dirt, depending on which drugs you're talking about.

Pharmaceuticals are expensive. Meth and crack are practically free!
