Great. Recognising Palestine is one part of the equation. Of course, this is done too many decades too late.

The other part of the equation is Israel. Practically, what will the UK do to stop its Genocide and when? It looks like the UK still supplies millions of pounds worth of arms to Israel

Edit: Freezing Israeli Zionist assets sounds like a great option too to stop a Genocide. And the UK knows how to do this since around £25 billion of Russian assets are held there (see article).

Seriously, how sad is it that it’s happening now that it’s almost destroyed?

Cool thanks buddy, no time like the present I guess.

If you give weapon to the occupier comiting the genocide then you are not for a palestinian state even with official declaration in the UN.

Freezing some israeli zionists assets will never stop anything. Imposing cuba style sanctions on the state of israel could

Every single time it's "X country will soon recognize Palestine."

JUST FUCKING DO IT

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah just like send an email to a journo, call a quick conference, say it in a meeting, or even just post it on social media: Palestine is a sovereign nation and it is under siege.

And the "West" is currently helping them commit genocide.

Worthless symbolic gesture taken after giving israel 8 more weeks to wrap up the starvation phase of the final solution for gaza.

This guy is the problem, working for donors compromised by israel I presume, and himself maybe. Starmer definitely seems like the type to sodomize a dead pig like cameron for their secret swells club.

UK: "Anyone who protests for Palestinian lives is a terrorist and will be arrested and silenced"

Also UK: "Palestine is a state and Israel is beseiging them"

Pick a fucking lane Starmer! You better release and compensate anyone you arrested, too.

They just signed a massive arms deal with Palantir. They chose a side a long time ago.

[–] androidul@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

what’s this going to bring? 🤷‍♂️

[–] hector@lemmy.today 7 points 3 days ago

Nothing. Empty gesture by a conservative labor hack.

Basically changes the Israel playing field as new rules and laws have to now be enforced.

Formalises borders, allows a legitimate Palestinian government to recognise sea and land borders.

Grants Palestine full diplomatic status and embassy in the UK that's probably going to be the Palestinian Authority btw.

Allows the UK to ban products that are produced by illegal settlements in the west bank or Gaza.

Increases pressure on Israel to deal with the situation rather than act the way it has been.

Overall it brings the PA up to a level the UK government can work with as a legitimate legal authority.

If Israel and the US refuse to recognize the Palestinian state, would it even matter if literally every other country in Earth recognized them? As long as the infinite money and weapon spigot flows from the US, what's the point?

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It's all pressure and politics, and that pressure can be applied via sanctions internationally when they are tied to that recognition.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You're just asserting that this applies pressure, but this disregards that the US acts as a pressure release valve. It is impossible to pressure the 51st state. They will never have any trouble obtaining finance, weapons, equipment, electronics, fuel, food, or energy.

Until the US starts facing pressure there won't be any effect on Israel.

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Honestly I just stared the possible outcomes of recognition. That's the end of my interest in the matter.

[–] Matriks404@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Palestine and its people is about to be removed from existence, so OK I guess?

[–] dogbert@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Euros and Brits are only doing this because Israel has completed the bulk of their mission. This is not resistance it is controlled opposition.

Is it just me or does it feel like every powerful nation is afraid of pissing off Israel? Especially after the whole "we didn't kill kirk" shit they keep repeating.

Edit: this wasn't a I support Israel post. This was a "does anyone else feel like isreal is basically saying back us or we're going to start assassinations"

[–] c10l@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

They’re not afraid of pissing off. They agree but can’t admit publicly.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago

They are neo colonial powers that love settler colonialism
