Oooh that’s… a fascinating development.

I didn’t have “possible nuclear exchange in the Middle East” on my bingo card for this year 😐

Edit: and yeah, that’d probably quickly spiral out of control into WW3. Maybe the Star Trek timeline is actually gonna pan out…? Sucks that we have to live through the horrifying part :(

Really? I had it on mine right after Israel and the US attacked Iran earlier this year.

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

If any country is going to use nukes it will be Israel

I didn’t have “possible nuclear exchange in the Middle East” on my bingo card for this year

Really? That's been on mine for the past couple years.

Middle east? It’s more likely India and Pakistan fight.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Not really. With this defense pact, if Israel gets wild and decides to attack Saudi Arabia for some reason, Pakistan would go in on SA’s side… which would probably trigger all of Israel’s neighbors to attack Israel… which would probably trigger Israel to start nuking its neighbors… which would very plausibly include SA… which would trigger Pakistan to nuke Israel. And then you have WW3, because things would absolutely spiral from there.

There is a 0% chance Pakistan launches a nuclear missle to their west. India will launch their full aresenal yhe moment they detect a missle launch from Pakistan

Pretty sure Pakistan has more ways to deliver than just MRBMs. And toss-bombing is a thing.

Zero? I envy your optimism.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

OK? There’s no reason to believe this will happen soon whereas Pakistan and India have actively fought for decades.

Also why do you think Saudi Arabia is neighbors with Israel? Last I checked they have no shared border.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 10 points 3 days ago

Yeah, when I saw the news of the attack against Qatar, my first reaction was "those stupid fucks"

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

After what happened to Qatar its clear that US defence guarantees don't mean anything. Gulf states are just glorified gas stations that recirculate petrodollars into the pockets of Trump and his Oligarchs.

So this is a well deserved slap in the face. MBS is telling Trump and Kushner to shove his Abraham Accords where the sun don't shine.

Bring on the multi polar world.

Who's to say Saudis won't develop their own nuclear weapons? This brings them a step closer.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Why would they need to? They can just attack us with someone else's weapons and we'll retaliate against Iraq and Afghanistan.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Holy woo wee, this here angle has me feeling somewhat not the bestest. But hey, whatcha gon’ do? Just keep this story in mind. I don’t think there is anyone in this administration capable OR anyone that may have previously served, neither willing nor wanting to sort this out.

Let's hope no-one's nephew goes riding around in an open-roofed car.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (2 children)

this is a good thing. every nation that wants it should have and share a nuclear program. from weapons to electricity to cancer treatment.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

It seems like a good thing, but I don't think it is.

We're moving away from large scale defense continental defense blocs back to country-by-country individual lockstep defense pacts.

We're setting ourselves up for WW1 again.

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Its not a good thing for the US Empire that's for sure

[–] flandish@lemmy.world -2 points 3 days ago

i concur and thats why nato is a bully, too

[–] krebssteven@lemmy.world -3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I agree. Yet these defense pacts against a specific ‘enemy’ usually leads to a spiral of conflicts. We want LESS layers of emnity in the middle east. Not more.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

Israel is comiting the final solution in gaza then they will take all palestine to finally start the plan for greater israel which some extreme visionaries include part of saudi. If you don't want more problem in the region you should keep cslling westetn countries to stop isrsel right now

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

sure but we have to be ok with pacts even if our propaganda and agitation have “sold” us that those are the bad guys. they’re likely no more bad than our “side” and progress like this is safer than not. look at nato keeping russia at bay?

[–] krebssteven@lemmy.world -4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Defense blocs are a different matter. Look on a map where NATO members are vs Russia and compare where KSA and Pakistan are compared to Israel.

Not saying the Middle East shouldn’t show solidarity but it’s a mesh of complex relations and this arbitrary pact just adds to that mess.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

is this not a defense bloc? maybe im confused because i thought it said attacks on one is attacks on all, etc.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

No no when we do it it's a defense block to protect Freedom loving people when they do it it's a defense pack that's designed to spiral into war. Big difference.
