I was some time ago, trying to find a vegan option to eat.

[–] habs@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Can't go wrong with rice and beans

[–] affenlehrer@feddit.org 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

The restaurant I went to prepared the beans with pork fat and anyways refused to change anything about the menu. It wasn't a genuine Mexican restaurant though since I live in Germany. The owners traveled to Mexico often though, got recipes from befriended Mexican chefs and imported some ingredients.

I know that because I used to go there often before I went vegan and was pretty sad that they went basically hostile when I carefully tried to order something vegan.

With carefully I mean without any preaching or judging or super complicated changes and custom wishes.

Refried beans are always made with lard. A lot of Mexican restaurants also offer whole pinto or black beans and those are usually made vegan. I would warn you that bullion is used in a lot of recipes though.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago

Those absolutely would not be vegan at a Mexican restaurant.

I have. I was not pleased about it, but I have been so sad in a Mexican restaurant that I once declined to eat.

[–] Cyanity@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

if you ate, you wouldn't be sad anymore

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Well no shit, there's hot ass latinas there. Who could be sad surrounded by latina babes?

If you've never had to urgently use the bathroom at a Mexican restaurant but when you get up to the door you find it's occupied so you wait outside in desperation until the person using it comes out and then you go in and see that the toilet is absolutely disgusting so you resign yourself to holding it in and dealing with the stabbing pains of 3 bowls of refried beans with cheese and valentina sauce desperately trying to exit your body one way or another -- then are you even capable of understanding the true nature of sadness?

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

In that scenario, we've already said goodbye to sadness. Regret, anxiety, self-loathing, and severe-bowel-discomfort just pulled up and are joining the party uninvited.

[–] comador@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Well, at least it wasn't chorizo guisado con salsa habaneros... most wouldn't make the wait.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I have. I've been to Mexican restaurants in Croatia and London.

Oh no. I feel that from thousands of miles away.

I have, my dad was there to celebrate my birthday, made it really nice, so much I just wanted to leave without even eating, thanks for the memorable birthday dad! I'll never forget your rage!

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sorry about this. Your dad was a bitch I assume?

Would have still hit those chips, tortillas, and queso. Never miss a chance at that shit. That's one of life's few pleasures

[–] argarath@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I still did, but I needed to force myself to eat at the beginning to "appease" him and to not keep the mood down, but at least the food was really good

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Hey...

Tiktok screenshots aren't memes.

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Anything memetic is a meme. This has been shared organically with no monetary incentive by users for the sake of amusement. That makes it a meme.

You're thinking of an image macro. You're right, this isn't an image macro.

What the fuck do you think a meme is?

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Literally anything that isn't a fucking tiktok screenshot.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Good meme lol

At least its not a TikTok screenshot

[–] bryanthebair@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (3 children)

How is a TikTok screenshot fundamentally different from a screenshot of a tweet or posting an image from instagram? Those are "accepted" definitions of a meme. We get it, you don't like TikTok because that's just the "company bad" flavor of the month. You need to adjust your own definition of a meme unless you just want to be the guy at the bottom of a post who was irrationally negative for a wholly arbitrary reason. Not tryin to argue or hate, I'm just sayin that I was that guy for a long time and it's impossible to describe the relief I feel today knowing that I'm not that person anymore.
