Most of the corner shops I've been to don't even sell the refills, just the devices.
They need to jack up prices on the latter, and maybe enforce a rule requiring nicotine refills to be sold separately from devices
I suspect the device will last about as long as one or two refills anyway. This would be why they're so cheap compared to the older ones.
I bought a 'rechargeable' one that was basically a disposable with a USB-C charge port on the end. The initial charge seemed to last for the duration of the vape...

Frankly, I'm kind of surprised that people use disposable vapes. It doesn't seem like it buys them much relative to using a reusable one. It's gonna cost more over time. I don't believe that they require maintenance.
I mean I'm with you, I use refillable ones and brew my own juice, but often convenience outweighs everything else for most people.

I'm wondering if maybe if you're a kid, there's a risk of the vape being seized -- like, get caught with it at school or something, I assume that you don't get it back. Probably ditto for parents keeping 'em if they find 'em. If you're a kid, it might be rational if the goal is to mitigate cost of seizure of your vape.

Picking a random online vape shop, huffandpuffers.com, it looks like they sell disposable vapes for maybe $13 (there's an $8 one, "Daze Clickmate Max", but it's out-of-stock). The cheapest reusable is a (small-capacity) fixed-battery refillable version of the disposable one, at $8 ("Daze Clickmate Max"). There are vapes with replaceable batteries, can take lithium 18650s, but those are $55 to $70, and it looks like they don't include the 18650; it looks like an 18650 goes for maybe $3 or $4 online, so figure $60 or more.
At that ratio, a reusable costing around 7 times what a disposable might, it wouldn't take an incredibly high seizure rate for it to be worthwhile for a kid to use disposables.
That is true, I never thought of that since back in my getting caught days vapes didn't exist. Getting caught probably does factor into their rationale.
From a practical standpoint (whether or not kids think this way) those $3-4 ones are mostly shit, the $6-10 dollar ones are more what you'd want to be using, you'd want at least 2 or 3 in case they run out when you're out and about and you'll need a charger too. The refillable tanks on that site (at a glance) use premade coil cartridge things that need replaced (though you'll probably get a week or more out of them) $12+ for a pack of those and the juice isn't free either.
