PayPal and Palantir cofounder Peter Thiel is embarking on an unusual intellectual journey this fall—delivering a sold-out four-part lecture series on the biblical figure of the Antichrist. The private lectures, which will be held at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, represent the latest evolution in Thiel’s increasingly public theological interests that intertwine his Christian faith with his concerns about technology’s potential to enable authoritarian control.

Considering he helped the anti-christ become president, this should be in nottheoninion

I'm no biblical scholar, but isn't this one of the features of the antichrist? Like that they will have false prophets and other dastardly types trying to deceive people and advance the real antichrist's agenda?

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 1 points 15 hours ago

I'm not religious at all, but seeing these mouthbreathing maga fuckwit's, slavish fealty to that pedo-protecting rapist criminal, has me reconsidering.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If any of those myths had any basis in reality, Thiel would definitely qualify as the Antichrist. As it is, he's just a common and garden variety asshole.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 39 points 3 days ago

My neighbor is a common garden variety asshole... this guy is a billionaire pile of shit getting obscenely wealthy on the demise of humans. He's not the antichrist, but he's no garden variety asshole.

Wow giving a lecture about yourself. That's meta man

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don’t think Peter Thiel knows that he is a candidate for the antichrist.

To know that, would require self reflection.

Sharing a photo for no reason at all. Not related to the topic.

I usually refrain from uttering what could be construed as death threats. So I will continue my streak and mention that this seems more like an event that should be catered by C. L. Aymore and associates.

People are seriously paying money to have the devil himself (Peter Thiel of PayPal, Palantir, and Pal of Epstein) teach them about religion.

I don't like having to do this, but this shit is literally blasphemy. It's all there in the book y'all have been using like an all powerful shield against modernization. Now this evil tech bro is going to tell you all about the anti-christ, and the path to eternal life through technology?! Come the fuck on:

Matthew 15-20: Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

San Francisco you have a very important job to do: I feel like people should go with megaphones and, warn everyone attending that they're being deceived by a false prophet and going to hell.

It would be cool to hear his take on things, if for no other reason than he has a huge amount of influence in the current government and had a hand in project 2025; and he’s I think an accelerationist who believes society needs to collapse and be remade into some techno-feudal state with himself as lord of part of California and also everyone’s personal information. Cause Palantir definitely has all your shit at this point.

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh, he's banking on society collapsing. That's what his Praxis network-state-city is about.

If you're not familiar with Curtis Yarvin, he's the crazy glue holding it all together. Get deep into that mess, it's what happens after Project 2025 runs out of ideas.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

I'm curious as to how they think they will make it through it.

All their wealth is magical stock numbers on a computer. They better have some gold on hand to pay to protect their shit.

They can ride out the worst of it in their bunkers but if they want to be Immotan Joe it's quite the dice roll.

Im sure theres some great jokes here but I don't have anything snarky to say about it, I'm just tired.

Some will call this a Thielogical discussion. Or not. Praise Satan.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"his Christian faith"? Is Thiel Christian? Or is he just calling himself that for cultural political reasons, like Peterson and Musk?

(For the record, I am Christian, and I'm constantly horrified at what passes for Christianity in the US.)

his concerns about technology’s potential to enable authoritarian control.

He's one of the leading voices in making technology to enable authoritarian control...

Critics argue that Thiel’s warnings about the Antichrist ring hollow given his role in building the very surveillance infrastructure that could enable authoritarian control. Thirteen former Palantir employees recently signed a letter urging the company to cease its work with the Trump administration, citing concerns about how the technology might be misused for political targeting

Oh good. At least they didn't just sane wash it like a bunch of other organizations are doing.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (11 children)

Any mention of Thiel should ALWAYS be accompanied by a mention of the book he and so many other weirdoes seem to take as their inspiration, and that book is The Sovereign Individual.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sovereign_Individual

The guy even wrote a preface for a reprint of the book!

In 2020, the book was reprinted with a preface written by PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel.[1]

Imagine being a good Satanist all your life, waiting for the Antichrist, praying to Satan, butchering animals, getting up in the middle of the night when Saturn is in retrograde to pick mugwort and shit…You do all that and he gives you fucking Peter Thiel.

The ticket prices are nothing more than a bribe paid to an influential person. I've not seen this guy talk to a camera much, but the little I have seen has not impressed me, I can't imagine anyone caring what he has to say that much. High society socialite garbage.

Or maybe he'll reveal he's the actual living avatar of Asmodeus and enthrall everyone in attendance with dark magic like a movie villain reveal. I don't know, I'd accept it as truth if I saw it in the news at this point.

This is so fucking weird.

People like this shouldn't be allowed to lead or make decisions that have long lasting effects for millions upon millions of people, or anyone for that matter.

People like him should be locked in psychiatric institutions. They should be studied for their mental disorders, and helped if possible.
