MODERATORS

I’m so confused by how Reddit is being moderated now. I had someone follow me to various subreddits, responding to every comment I made with a particular anti trans slur, (the one that rhymes with “moon”, not sure if I’m allowed to say it here) and a demand that I join the “41 percent” (which basically means “kill yourself.”) I reported their account, just once, and it was the first time I’d ever reported anyone. A few hours later, I was permanently banned for “abusing the report button”. I tried making another account and was instantly banned. The accounts of other people in my household have also been permanently banned, which is the most confusing part of all of it.

The account that was harassing me is still up as far as I’m aware. So, apparently it’s fine to call people slurs and tell them to die, but they’re not allowed to complain about it.

So, I’m new to this place. I was told it was better.

The reporting function doesn't work, just like the appeals don't work. Reddit is trying to get rid of anyone who provides content, but not to their standard. Permabans are the easiest way to discourage us from coming back. Banning your IP and MAC address takes it a step further and is another reason why many people are confused and frustrated.

Honestly, being permabanned is the best thing for me. I hated reddit, but it was the only option i had known of. They constantly push ad's onto you and those stupid "He gets us" jesus propaganda ad's.

I got permabanned for questioning the presidents health, you are not allowed to question their king.

Been there dude. I have tried reports on reddit for horrible comments... they never got removed.

then noticed my comments were removed/reported/banned for the same reasons even though my comments had nothing to do with racism/sexism/phobia, etc.

Some psycho troll targeted you and reddit took their side because that's what reddit does.

Don't be shy with the details. Which subs were involved, and which user.

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

@pleaseletmein@lemmy.zip So... any word?

[–] pleaseletmein@lemmy.zip 2 points 21 hours ago

It was across multiple communities, as the user was following me and responding to everything I said. The comment I reported was in r/memes, and the first place they started hassling me was r/funny.

Once I know it’s alright to do so, I’ll share a screenshot of one of the messages they sent to me.

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 11 points 3 days ago

Yeah, it's generally better in here in that respect. Transphobia is massively downvoted and commonly banned as well.

There are quite a few trans communities here, too, if you belong to the group and seek a friendly environment.

I tried making another account and was instantly banned.

Reddit does not like ban evasion, and they have the means to check.

The accounts of other people in my household have also been permanently banned, which is the most confusing part of all of it.

So an IP ban more or less, and that is more draconian than I remember.

Glad you saw the darkness and turn toward the light though!

[–] arin@lemmy.world 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Must have been an admin that got reported

[–] slaacaa@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I don’t see any other way. If OP is telling the truth, reddit nuking their whole household after 1 report sounds like and admin/supermod who got their fee-fees hurt.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Maybe it's automated and not permanent. I've had trouble just trying to log into two accounts (not evading anyhting), and it went away after some time.

Point stands though, reddit are doing their damnedest to turn into the opposite of what they were for over a decade.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

gotta protect that stock value.

Here it's Russia-China-loving Marxist Leninists you gotta watch out for ;-;

[–] RedditIsALostCause@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Yep, my first account was made on the wrong instance and I was like “wtf is wrong with everyone here? Like I get corporations fuckin’ suck, but communism???”

They’re also HUGE babies and will claim -ism, -phobia, etc. by stretching the littlest thing.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 17 points 4 days ago (6 children)

I get corporations fuckin’ suck, but communism???

It's not even actual communism either, but more like tankie-ism. Stalin's USSR and Mao's China weren't communist either, but more like dictatorships / autocracies dressed up with 'communist principles.' But I digress, maybe.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

they are totally cool with killing people for their ideology. just like religious extremists.

Worshipping russia isnt communism btw. You are mistaken, use the words wisely

I dont blame you for this position, no wonder america/europe has history of red scare propaganda.

[–] RedditIsALostCause@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fuuuuuuck Russia and all its sympathizers. I’m not educated enough to speak with authority on communism vs. capitalism, so I digress there.

It's better here. About a third of the accounts are LGBTQties. Check out https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/ for all your trans related needs. Welcome to the nicer part of the internet.

[–] Delta_V@lemmy.world 36 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No good deed goes unpunished on Reddit.

I caught a temp ban for something similar, and decided to never return.

They accused me of "abusing the report button" for reporting a post that was advocating violence to advance the political agenda of a far right, ethno-nationalist, religious fundamentalist ideology.

Reddit admins are terrorist sympathizers when it advances the class interests of the site's owners.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

I got banned for some of the most benign shit on reddit. I also saw them do nothing about right wing hate. But to hear the story from right wingers, reddit is an echo chamber for the left and they are persecuted unfairly there

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 37 points 4 days ago

A valuable person has joined the fediverse yay 🥳

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 30 points 4 days ago (3 children)

You got ip banned. Consider that Reddit is owned by Corpo Nazi simps and main admins are Evan Nazis themselves, that should clear up the confusion

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

At this point, they're doing everyone a favor by perma-banning in bulk.

The site is foul and we're all better off moving on

Reddit isn't close to free speech in any way. Far-right admins and owners disrupt anything but the most bland discourse, and ban people for stupid, and silly reasons.

Social media comes and goes, and reddit is fucking GONE. It became a stock traded corporation, and instantly lost all credibility. It's just another billionaire owned media at this point.

You might as well post on full nazi x.com, then wonder why you get banned when you speak out for LGBTQ rights.

Yeah, this is better. Not perfect, but better than bluesky for the same reasons.

I don't want you to commit suicide. I want you to be happy, educated, and productive without nazis or religious jerks bothering you for any reason.

Reddit is a tool of fascist states now, when they went public the pivoted from a user based buisness model to a government surveillance and propaganda based buisness model.

[–] OneOrTheOtherDontAskMe@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Can someone (privately if need be) tell me what the slur is? I'm losing my mind coming up with rhyming words for that that have historical offense and I'm coming up short (and I'm american, so the word may not even culturally exist here)

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Yeah it’s a slur from 4chan that combines transvestite and goon into troon.

I am ignorant of how strict the language filters are so I’ll let the gods decide my fate.

Thank you so much. The first part, yikes. But goon? These dudes aren't even trying to be funny. I must be well and away from 4-chan entirely for me to have not seen that yet

[–] Aganim@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Thanks, hadn't heard that one before. Good to know, (without context at least) I'd definitely wouldn't have recognised it as a slur. Doesn't help that 'troon' happens to be the Dutch word for 'throne'. 😋

Would you mind linking your old account or some old comments? I'd love to have something substantive to show off to people who don't believe how fascist Reddit is these days

[–] Madrigal@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I got banned a couple years ago for the same thing.

Moderators can report reports as ‘abusive’, and Reddit basically accepts their word without bothering to actually check anything.

Naturally, certain groups have been exploiting the fuck out of this situation to silence opposing viewpoints.

You could appeal the ban, but most likely Reddit won’t read it and you’ll get an automated response.

As for the repeat ban, you’re running into Reddit’s ban evasion features. They use IP address and browser fingerprinting to track you, even when logged out. Easily defeated, with a little effort - assuming you want to.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This. They want to keep the useful idiots that are doing their bidding for free on board. Thus encouraging megalomania and overzealousness btw.

The few mods who were better than that have left long ago.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

anyone with self-respect would.

sadly the psychos always push out those who have self-respect and respect for others.

[–] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I was banned for calling out antisemitism a half year ago. They've been on this bs for a while now. And you were told right. It is considerably better here imo. Still many of the same issues, but moderation is definitely less gross and frustrating, and the people are generally more interesting and interested. Much smaller crowd, though, obviously. Welcome!

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

Both of my accounts got smacked with the permbanhammer unreasonably harshly especially considering the "offense" being that I said Neo-Nazis should be named and shamed.

Reddit admins are Nazi sympathizers and the entire platform is rotten.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

while that's maybe the worst example I've seen, that checks out for reddit. thanks for reaffirming my decision to not try to go back

Congrats on the IP ban, those are usually reserved for serious offenders. Take it as a badge of honor, honestly.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I've been IP banned a few times. it's not that serious. they usually unban you after 6-12 months.
