Reddit isn't close to free speech in any way. Far-right admins and owners disrupt anything but the most bland discourse, and ban people for stupid, and silly reasons.
Social media comes and goes, and reddit is fucking GONE. It became a stock traded corporation, and instantly lost all credibility. It's just another billionaire owned media at this point.
You might as well post on full nazi x.com, then wonder why you get banned when you speak out for LGBTQ rights.
Yeah, this is better. Not perfect, but better than bluesky for the same reasons.
I don't want you to commit suicide. I want you to be happy, educated, and productive without nazis or religious jerks bothering you for any reason.
Why do you expect free speech on a private platform?
I'm not trying to troll I'm trying to understand people's perception of free speech.
because that was one of reddits founding principles. it was originally very libertarian leaning in that regard and very much in the spirit of freedom of information, etc. like most of the early 2000s internet. it started in 2005 only a year after FB. back when tech was more idealist and less capitalist. it was supposed to be a space you could freely communicate different ideas and form communities and not feel policed or judged or harassed. of course, that's all gone now.
sort of like how google was 'don't be evil'
but times changed. being evil makes the stock price go up.
Still doesn't change the fact that at no time does a private organization need to follow free speech.
Free speech is not about saying what you want when you want and how you want. It's the protection you have to criticize your government and not have any fear of consequences. No private entity needs to follow these rules. Looks like everyone who started with Reddit was duped and didn't understand what free speech is.
The idea of reddit was an open platform. I guess some people just expect the rug to not get pulled from under them.
Open only until the private entity closes it. Free because they monetize your info. Social media is a cancer on society.
