Seems like its only purpose showing up in the Independent is to further some anti-environmental or anti-urbanist messaging.

They literally have dedicated staff for US region. They also have another domain https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/dallas-mom-paralyzed-tree-fell-b2816148.html.
It's on their UK site in the "world" news section. A woman getting horribly injured by a falling tree is barely Texas news, and the person who owned the tree isn't news at all unless there was some misconduct.
