“This year, all our pre-filled syringe COVID-19 vaccine doses for Canada are on track to be produced entirely within the country, starting at our new mRNA manufacturing facility in Laval, Quebec, and completed at our fill-finish partner in Cambridge, Ontario,” Raos says.

“This end-to-end domestic supply chain enables fast delivery, greater self-reliance, and a more agile response to evolving public health threats.”

“With this approval, for the first time ever, mRNA COVID-19 vaccine doses for Canadians will be made in Canada."

This is wonderful news, and let's not forget that it was the work by Canadian scientist Pieter Cullis that made mRNA vaccines possible.

Considering the American Child Rapist in Chief is going to ban COVID-19 vaccines, we might as well bring them home 🤗

Yes please. I'll take one.

Canada is about to have a lot of medical tourists.

[–] Warehouse@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

... even from other Canadians.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How does that work, anyway? Can I just drive into BC or Saskatchewan and get a free COVID shot, or are they only free for residents of the province?

[–] Warehouse@lemmy.ca 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

BC apparently has stated that they'll dish out a free covid shot for those ineligible in Alberta. Don't know about Saskatchewan.

Tourism gold. You'll find me and my family sliding over that way this fall some time. Hopefully they launch some hotel deals, might even hitch the dirt bike up and make a weekend of it.

I hope these ones are upgraded with the latest 6G wireless microchips because they totally overpromised with the last 5G one. Also, they need to come in maple syrup flavour.

[–] hedge_lord@lemmy.world 19 points 6 days ago (3 children)

With these new ones I heard that if you scratch the injection site it smells like maple syrup

(sarcasm disclaimer: this is a joke (but I wish it wasn't!))

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 4 points 5 days ago

That's a great way to test if people have been vaccinated or not

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago

Mind over matter😝 believe it and it will manifest, if only to you

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Scratch and sniff style bandaids could be cool, just maybe without the scratching part in case that affects the healing process

[–] idarknight@lemmy.ca 20 points 6 days ago

Pre filled eh? Don’t tell Smith that in Alberta… she’ll have to come up with another story to explain vaccines waste.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Since they're being banned here in the US, can I go to Canada, get a vaccine, and come back?

Or do they only allow them for citizens?

[–] Cheems@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

No joke, if you can. Don't say you got it or that you're getting it. I wish I was being hyperbolic, but I could definitely see them denying people entry that got it. I wish I was joking.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh they wouldn't deny entry to an American who got the shot. If they were going to do anything, it would be much worse than stranding you in Canada

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They are harassing people just for having memes on phones.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yes, and if you are an American returning to the US from Canada, and they decide to harass you over your memes or your covid shot, don't expect to be turned away and sent back to Canada.

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

More worried about getting disappeared via ICE.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That was what I was alluding to in my original comment, yes

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Sorry, missed that line! Yeah my gf's father lives in CA and we're not comfortable crossing the border while Trump is in office.

~~I imagine it might be free for citizens and similar groups, and at some cost for international visitors.~~ You're best bet is to contact the health authority of the province you'd be looking to get it in

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/managing-your-health/immunizations/covid-19-immunization

I'm not a resident of B.C.

Non-B.C. residents can contact their local Health Authority Public Health Unit.

edit:

Whether or not it's free for residents might also depend on the province, for example:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/free-covid-vaccines-bc-albertans-1.7615154

Albertans who don't qualify for free COVID-19 vaccinations in their home province can get one in British Columbia.

Which makes sense, it helps us here in BC if others are vaccinated since it limits the spread of the disease overall.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 15 points 6 days ago

I read that it has protection against some or all of the new strains.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 days ago

That's insane! Rare W. Can't wait to get a maple booster!

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 days ago

Fuck yeah!

Were coming back

[–] ezekielmudd@reddthat.com 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Now, if we could only get it in Alberta. Sigh

[–] foggenbooty@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I have a really good career here, but if that were to change for some reason... yeah I don't see why I would stay. I would seriously look at moving because Alberta seems determined to get worse.
