That's not great news. Softbank is kind of known for making terrible investments.

The only way Intel has a future is by relying on the Trump regime's protectionism. But Trump and his regime won't be there forever.

AFAIK Softbank is in the black these past years where many have lost money on the stock market. So IDK if they are decidedly terrible.
Some high risk investments have high potential, and often if you hit the jackpot 1 out of 10 times on those, you're good.

Anyone who thinks the US gov will let Intel go bankrupt is crazy. They make so many different components for the armed forces that they will never be allowed to die.

I would almost argue a Softbank investment is like an ill omen (see WeWork, OYO).

As owner of Arm, they have a clear interest in Intel being a competitor to TSMC.
I bet this investment isn't that big for Softbank, and their calculation is that the potential gains outweigh the possible loss.

For instance like if Intel has a 30% chance of survival, but on the other hand if they do, the sock price will increase more than 4 times. Then the potential gains outweigh the risk.

If this can help Intel on the fab side, that is clearly a bonus for Softbank.

There’s some kind of weird pseudo-nationalization talk going on regarding Intel right now.

Nobody’s talking about it
