Prime Minister Mark Carney called the byelection in June after Conservative MP Damien Kurek stepped down from his seat so Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre could run.

Kurek's resignation came after he handily won the riding in April. The history of the riding and its previous incarnations indicate it has been one of the safest blue seats in the country.

Last week, Elections Canada released data from advance polls which revealed 14,454 people have already cast their ballots in the riding, more than the amount who showed up at advance polls in that riding for April's federal election.

This shouldn’t be allowed.

If you lose your seat by treating your constituents like shit then you should have to sit on your ass until next election.

Maybe Polievre shouldn’t have hobnobbed and celebrated the convoy if he did t want Ottawa to hate him.

Maybe he should have campaigned locally instead of only on right wing “news”.

Allowing this only supports a government if fly-in MPs who have no connection to Canadians and zero incentive to serve their community, which is the entire point of MLAs elected by riding.

Yep. This is, IMO, literally cheating, don't care which party is/has done it.

Super unethical.

It's the conservative carpet bagger way. It's all they do, parachute around, when they can't get their way. Like little petulant children.

Even more embarrassing, is all the dumb idiots that continue to lap it up. Those Rural Albertans in this riding (and all the other rural ones, who are we kidding) supposedly don't want to be seen as dumb hillbilly inbred cousin humping smallpox infected cowboys. But then they turn around and just go to the polls like robots every time, and prove to us they are indeed hillbilly inbred cousin humping measles infected boot lickers that have an absolute inability to look out for their own interests.

This is a bigger abuse than the longest ballot initiative by far

The fact we are going to have to listen to everyone and their drunk uncle spew his blitherblabber all over every social media platform, starting tomorrow, makes me want to vomit

The literal best thing this man can do in the morning, is continue to shut the fuck up for another week or two, and let us just come to terms that our everyday is going to be filled with his annoying ass whiny voice again.

I enjoyed the last couple months of not hearing anything from him.

I’m with you, he never actually puts forward any ideas, he just whines incessantly.

It's been a heavy weekend, but if there is a causre for celebration later today, I won't say no.
