I just recently am taking a dive into bandcamp and building up a collection of music for myself for the first time and I don't think I saw a bandcamp community on lemmy yet or I failed to search for it properly or something lol

Anyone wan to start one or link it?

I don't think there is one.

However, there are several for music, and I expect at least some of those must be for recorded music (rather than making music, as one would do at a band camp).

For what it's worth, Bandcamp.com sold out to Epic Games, and were subsequently sold to Songtradr, both of which are a far cry from the independent and beloved music shop that Bandcamp once was. The interest in a community dedicated to them has likely diminished since then.

If I were looking for music sharing communities I think I would be asking about that with a more specific goal.

I think saying there is not interest in having a bandcamp community is a silly notion, there's enough practical reasons over the even shittier streaming options and compared to going to each artist individually, not to mention lemmy as a whole is a link/conent/information/etc aggregator in the form of communities sharing info about everything so meta information alone warrants the existence of it as a community, you mentioning the things about epic gamesand songtradr is a good example of something to go there.

Over time I've been watching bandcamp grow and still be as useful as it ever was, in fact it has enough artists on it now that it seems like a worthwhile endeavor for me to use it, thr main thing that got me there recently was a recent push to use bandcamp because of the spotify ceo thing and a few notable artists of mien moving their main front to there.

Okay, but nobody said that.

Fair enough. My footnote was meant to inform, not to dissuade.

Just saying there is definitely more than diminished interested for a bandcamp community

I like the idea

Didn't the staff unionise a while back due to the buyout?

I go rummaging through Bandcamp occasionally and might pitch in with some posts once in a while if you start/find one.

If you start one, I'll plug my stuff there every once in a while!

Yo, I use bandcamp all the time! It has a good media player and is often the only place to carry certain music. I'd probably post some of my favorites if there was a community for it.
