If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

From Sherry MacCartney

Matt & I made a quick weekend trip to SD in July. We arrived just before sunset and decided to check out a dirt road we had never been on. We immediately saw Burrowing Owls and a small herd of Pronghorns! Then, the highlight was watching the sky turn from peachy- pink to bright pink and finding a Great Horned Owl pair in the distance seeming to be in awe of this, as well! It was a great start to our weekend adventure!

*Misspelled on purpose since my keyword block hides the post if it's spelled correctly. Dang El0n!

Well that’s a poorly implemented keyword block.

Wow rude /s.

I think one can make a good case for either style of keyword matching. In any case, the solution here is to add an option on whether to match by word boundaries or not.

It has worked really well for however many months now I've had the keywords, I'm guessing around 6 months. Since my list is all names, it covers anything with a possessive form. But when everyone's moniker is from 3 to 5 letters, it seems one is eventually going to be part of another word.

You always go above and beyond on Summit, and it is a big influence on my enjoying Lemmy for so long now. I skimmed the roadmap thread yesterday and it looked huuuge, even though due me, the app is best perfect anymore. With this issue, you helped me solve what was going on in about an hour from the time of my post, and didn't make me feel dumb when we found out what was going on. This is far from the first time you've helped me with something as well.

You and Summit are both amazing.

I, also a developer, was careful with how I worded that comment. Half of what I write is poorly implemented. 😅 You’re absolutely right about either style having a case.

Does seem like an oversight. I've submitted a bug report. Dev is always really great on patches, so hopefully resolved soon.
