Can't find a copy of the tweet saying something like:

I want AI to do the cooking and washing so I can make art and write. Not for AI to make art and write; so I'm left to do cooking and washing.

Or alternatively, the line I heard in a recent podcast:

AI should be used to help creative people do boring tasks, not for the boring people (I guess managers and prompt writers) to do creative tasks.

There's a very very narrow case for this with helping lots of uninspired out of work dipshits vibecode apps with poor security and 3D games where squares shoot squares at squares.

Personally I think AI should be used to do all of the above for anyone who wants it to. Then people could in theory work on their own personal goals in the ways they value. A lot has to change for that to be a reality though it's certainly not the path we're on currently

Generating crap is easy. Creating art is not so easy. LLMs are not artists.

The average person doesn't know and doesn't care. They see AI slop and go "oh wow!"

I feel like most of the people I know don't do any analysis of any media in their life. They just go "oh cool" and let it wash over them.

I mean look how popular Michael Bay movies are…

Do artists care about people who don't care about art?

Maybe, maybe not, but people that don't care about art have money, and artists need money to live. Probably we should focus on fixing that "need money to live" thing as a society so that everyone would have more time for art and creativity, but the people with the most money have decided to focus on other things, like replacing the artists.

Right like nothing from them is revolutionary or thought provoking or even more than mildly unexpected. It's mid at best. And it makes sense when you have any idea how they work.

Especially the bit where its art is copied.

yeah see this is what it's about. we want machines that save human labour. but we're getting machines that save human creativity.

Man, if AI could fold this laundry, fill and run the dish washer, scrub the floors, and cook dinner, that'd be swell. Unfortunate everything is backwards and pushing us all to the brink of global warming extinction.

[–] frank@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

That's what engineering, not AI, does. That's why we have dishwashers and washing machines, all sorts of clever ways to clean floors.

The help we want is not from tech bros.

[–] vane@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That was AW technology back then in the previous century before computers, when life was simple.

ChatGPT please generate me a sandwich, I'm hungy

[–] wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

ChatGPT, do the dishes.

I'm sorry. I can't do that.

I didn't ask!

You're just like your father!

[–] lemmyknow@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

Damn, why AI taking the fun, creative stuff, instead of the boring stuff? People like painting, making music, writing. They've been doing it forever. Now, other tasks are just that, things people do because they must. I mean, does anyone like ironing and folding laundry? If you do, hit me up: +011 899 988 199.

We've created machines to wash our clothes, ffs.

[–] errer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Folding clothes is my most hated chore. I would let an army of AI killbots murder a dozen kittens if it meant I’d never have to fold clothes again.
