Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

I mean no disrespect and have read the ~~propaganda~~ article. The Atlantic is an American publication based in Washington, DC.
The Word of the Day is: Scapegoat
Israel needs Hamas to want Palestinians to starve or else Israel doesn't have an escape goat to rationalize genociding Palestinians. As a result the narrative will be Hamas want to starve Palestinians.
escape goat
Just in case you didn't know, it's 'scapegoat'; the goat isn't, at least voluntarily, escaping anything.
Fouad Alkatib is a Zionist who lives in America who works for an American Zionist think tank. He gets paid to do Israeli propaganda.
Please read the article before commenting.
No thanks
Online supporters of the terror group have consistently attacked any efforts to alleviate the crisis. In posts and videos, they have dismissed efforts to send in food by convoys of trucks from Egypt and Jordan, pointing to the chaotic scenes as desperate Gazans scramble for aid. They have likewise attacked the airdrops that are now under way and called for them to be stopped immediately
This is pulled straight out of the author's ass. Stop posting genocide propaganda, please.
Hard to read an article that is paywalled.
Hard to read propaganda
Isn't for me?
E: Maybe this one? https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/07/hamas-wants-famine/683724/?gift=OsgW-uWNMiSsqh_gTIYXRk4xfcQRH-qTlmxF81QLknM
The last line absolutely nails it:
"The best way to undermine Hamas’s position is to instead flood Gaza with food, and to alleviate the suffering of its people."
So why doesn't Israel do it? If that would undermine Hamas' position, why is Israel maintaining the supply blockade they started back in the 90s?
Why is Israel intent on shooting people lining up for aid, including children, if that just re-enforces the negative opinion Hamas wants everyone to have about Israel?
That's not Hamas doing that, it's Israel doing that.
Israel's typical over-reaction to October 7th is what Hamas wanted, and Israel played into it. They chose to commit genocide, murder tens of thousands of innocent people, and used snipers to shoot children in the head and heart.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/02/gaza-palestinian-children-killed-idf-israel-war
"The doctor went on to claim that Israeli snipers are deliberately shooting children in Gaza, citing his observation of two children who were shot twice. "No child gets shot twice by mistake," he said."
That's not Hamas. That's a deliberate choice made by Israel. They could stop today. They will not, but they absolutely could.
The best way to undermine Hamas’s position is to end occupation and let israeli and palestininas punish their war criminals
Israel (or more precisely it's PM and his clique) is definitely interested in prolonging the war, the same as Hamas. One can't talk of one without the other. There werr some materials floating around that at some point Israel "sponsored" Hamas the same as US sponsored middle east terrorist groups just to be attacked by them later.
Keeping state of constant war is a very lucrative endeavour - you can shatter liberties, you can subject population to virtually anything claiming "war time" and rake profits from arms trade etc. While raiding humanitarian aid warehouses etc. It's a very dirty business. Hamas needs to be disarmed and disbanded, Netaniahu has to be deposed and persecuted, Palestine should be it's own state and Israeli need to return what's not really theirs. But none of the homicidal entities is willing to be persecuted thus this war will continue until one of them destroyed or reformed
Israel is the only one who want to prolonge the war
Sigh, fine.
Hamas wants gaza to starve, let's roll with it, so to fight Hamas, Israel should allow aid to come in and feed Palestinians, otherwise Israel is helping hamas and is anti-semitic.
It's a kind of catch22. Hamas cannot release the hostages. Because as soon as the last hostage is freed, Israel will bomb Gaza to kingdom come. And continue as long as anything there is alive.
Not even that. Israel keeps rejecting getting them back because that'd remove an excuse to keep the violence going.
Hamas tried giving them back at beginning and Israel said no
