Luckily I already have a Plex/Jellyfin server, so having a device running 24/7 isn’t an issue. But my experience is primarily on the HTPC side of things, so I’d appreciate any tips! I’m probably going to run it headless for now, but may eventually install a dashboard once the dust has settled on getting this running.
Yeah, this happened at the absolute worst time for me. I have 6 of their WiFi bulbs that I've been planning to replace, but the wife's car just broke down yesterday, and she had a surgical procedure today. And my kid starts her senior year of high school in a week or two, and registration is now, and she needs new clothes for school. Ugh.
Needless to say, money is too tight to replace these 6 not-so-smsrt bulbs just yet.
Thankfully, the 6 bulbs are: 3 in the kid's room, and 3 in the front porch. Ad the kid has other lighting that continues working fine, and the porch lights are only needed if someone goes out there, and we rarely use the front porch, as our main entryway is the back one. I also have several zigbee relays, and some esphome devices so it's not like my entire setup just died..
I was about to pull the trigger on replacing them the last time this crap happened, and they started working again, so they got moved to a back burner.

Oddly enough, my wife had a surgery today too. But we’ve already hit our out-of-pocket max for the year (because of all of the issues leading up to her surgery). Hope your wife is doing well!

Good move. I've driven my Sengled E11-N1EA bulbs for years now over ZigBee with an old HubZ HUSBZB-1. Works fine, no regrets. Didn't even know those bulbs were cloud attached.
Those are the exact bulbs I have! I thought ahead and at least bought Zigbee bulbs, in anticipation of Sengled eventually pulling their support. And now here we are, with Sengled’s servers dead/killed and absolutely no communication from the company. Apparently this latest outage had Amazon pulling their support, so there are probably a lot of Alexa people about to transition to other brands.
Used this same exact setup for years and only in the last few months moved to a SLZB-06 POE version paired with Z2M and love it.

I have 3 computer monitors, and one is effectively dedicated to displaying Home Assistant. I started running HA on a Raspberry Pi 2 (not recommend, but possible), and upgraded to an old ThinkPad when adding a few more demanding tasks.
I've recently got into self hosting, ad found that HA runs equally well in docker as OS. The output on the laptop is not particularly useful considering you can do just about everything remotely.
Advice: Make backups, save any configuration files you make/change, then just go nuts and tinker with everything.
Almost everything can be done using the GUI (and it's fairly user friendly), but it's worth at least knowing how to access the YAML. Copying other people's code (with permission) is a great way to learn and find new features.
Read the documentation before installing the community store (HACS). Is easy to install, but has a few steps that will keep you troubleshooting for hours if you don't follow them the first time.
My favourite HACS integration is apexcharts-card. It takes a little learning to get right, but the graphs look really good. I'd be happy to share some tips and examples if you're interested.

The dashboards are basically one step away from the configuration, you'll probably have one sooner than you think!
Also, when you start playing with the light, check out grouping. Very swish having one button to turn all the lights in the house off.
Isn't that just a Zigbee dongle? I'm confused.
He's using Sengled zigbee bulbs, probably with their hub. And needs an actual zigbee hub.
At least that's my understanding of his post.
I already have a few spare Raspberry Pi’s, so I’m going to install one alongside my Jellyfin server and flash Home Assistant onto it. Gotta have the dongle to actually connect to anything though. I suppose I could just spin up a container directly on my Jellyfin server, but then I wouldn’t have add-on support.
