Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

It's an c/elevatorthought, hope its okay.

I never seen the insides (or outside....) of an elevator so as far as i know they might be just teleporting me to the floor.

Lots of potential to make a conspiracy theory i'd actually believe in as it makes me feel really cool.

It's the same with houses. They invented houses to lock you in and adjust outside world.

Our world doesn't believe in that newfangled UDMF nonsense. Give me silent teleporters or give me death.

That's why I use only elevator like that:

[–] Archer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Paternoster elevators!

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

Elevators exist to give enough time to load in the next floor.

I always think of what my dog thinks of elevators. She knows you get in it, get out, and you're somewhere else, but does she understand it in the same way as a car? Or more like pure magic? Because in a car, she can see it moving, and going somewhere else, she doesn't just teleport there... Idk, shower thoughts, I guess.

Same goes for medicine in general. You take a pill, and headache goes away. How did that happen? Ask a pharmacist/biochemist/etc. Everyone else might just intuitively think of it as magic.

What about phone calls then? How does your voice travel so far? Feels pretty magical, doesn’t it?

There are a lot of transparent elevators. But perhaps those are real elevators, and the others are transporters.

[–] bvoigtlaender@feddit.org 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah, i might also remember seeing one of those, but i think its just my mind playing tricks on me.

You've never seen what's at the bottom of a lake? Could be dinosaurs. You've never seen what's on the other side of the moon. Could be space nazis.

[–] aviationeast@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Oddly enough I have. Sometimes it is dinosaurs like alligators or turtles. Most space Nazi's are dead but they did help the US get to space and the moon.

Never occurred to me.

Way too many of these where I live, leaving absolutely no room for the imagination in terms of how they work.

There are so many of these it makes more sense to modernize the existing carriages to bring them up to modern safety standards.

The simple cage around the shaft remains, leaving the machinery completely open to inspection for anyone and everyone.

Are glass elevators not common where you live?

[–] bvoigtlaender@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

Yea, no there are some. Just forgot about it. Don't see them often.

[–] Admetus@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

Vertical teleporters then 🙃

I think you would enjoy the film Pi (1998), by Aronofsky. 👋

[–] perviouslyiner@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Can even be used as an illusion of a teleport!

[–] Nebula@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago

"Fuck, he knows. Yes, send out two agents and a cleanup crew."

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Now add the Teleport paradox on top of that and you are golden.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago

Anything is possible in a simulation.

Reminds me of a episode of Dr who where a elevator was actually just a teleporter.

[–] Sidhean@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

We had a "glass" elevator in a mall around here back when I was a kid, but everyone knows their just fancy LED screens. The same thing don't move. That lurch you feel? That's the teleportin' happening

[–] INeedMana@piefed.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Beam me up, Scotty!

[–] aviationeast@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Might want to watch the 10th kingdom the trolls have the same thoughts.

Well, that is how it works in Portal.
