Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

Liberals demonstrating that to them the optics of agreeing with MTG are worse than the optics of supporting genocide

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 33 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Don't look at the .ml thread about it.

[–] dustcommie@hexbear.net 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

There is even a hexbear in the ml thread basically saying voting with MTG is worse

[–] MizuTama@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Yeah kiryu-pain

Was gonna do my usual shitposting about it but just felt meanspirited and depressing, vibes off

To me the larger statement here is that Dem house members and Repub house members are just the same bloodthirsty war mongers, with a different consonant next to their name.

AOC is but one of them.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I think most people are acutely aware of that part,

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Not with AOC as much. She still has a lot of defenders who see her as being further left than she actually is.

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I don't.

Otherwise you wouldn't see folks hollering about vote

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 48 points 3 months ago (2 children)

When MTG is more correct on an issue than you (for the wrong reasons no doubt) I don't think you count as a progressive any more

[–] DesertComrade@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The reasons being that it is a waste of American tax payer money on a war that doesn't benefit the American people

Which isn't a wrong reason there are certainly better ones

But this is the correct approach to reach the average Republican

And this makes her infinitely better than any other pro war democrat

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This is also the correct approach for those liberals that are like "why should I care about Palestine?" I like to hit them with "because your tax dollars are going to blow up children instead of fixing our roads and paying for you to be healthy and have a nice environment". It's certainly the least empathetic path to get someone to support your side, but when it comes to stopping a genocide, we don't have a lot of leverage which is crazy

[–] IttihadChe@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The only problem with this approach is that it still enables the pacifying force of fascism.

"Fine, we will give you free healthcare and fix the roads, genocides still happening though".

It's basically the same "we will do genocide, but bring out a rainbow flag occasionally and allow trans people to partake" that the Dems do now, just more concessions towards the populace.

My only worry is the current crop of rising anti Israel voices that are rising on the right (notably Tucker Carlson) will parlay their correct stance on Israel into future anti semitic actions.

I can see a movement in the future to deport American Jews to Israel, because "we supported Israel for so long you Jews need to be grateful"

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 3 months ago

She is broken clock correct because she's a raging antisemite who didn't get the memo that you're supposed to hate Jewish people but love and materially support the entity

[–] LeninWalksTheEarth@hexbear.net 47 points 3 months ago (2 children)

4 not shitty democrats, what progress

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 43 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Same people voting against sending weapons to Israel at the start of the genocide. So to conclude the entire genocide did nothing to shift American policitians stance.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 30 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Hey that's not fair, AOC voted 'Present' on sending them arms once in April 2024, and made a big stink about it

So she's actually gotten worse

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I feel like that's less than it used to be. Remember "The Squad"?

[–] LeninWalksTheEarth@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Turns out only Ilhan matters in that group

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Tlaib is pretty based for a dem

Shocking, a soc dem dipshit is also pro genocideshocked-pikachu

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago (2 children)

is she a soc dem? as far as i can tell she's just a run of the mill dem

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 3 months ago

I think she could still qualify, but only because general level of the succdems in the west is lowest ever.

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 41 points 3 months ago

AOC continues to prove that she is trash

[–] Candidate@hexbear.net 40 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Insane. Dem voters despise Israel now, this is such an easy W.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Pot legalization has been a slam dunk for either side for over a decade. They don't want to win and be popular. It's too much work

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 36 points 3 months ago

Sheepdog lib gonna lib

[–] CleverOleg@hexbear.net 31 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I don’t even think this stripped all funding, or even a majority of it. Just reducing it by $500 million.

[–] hellinkilla@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah isn't that like 0.1%?

[–] CleverOleg@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Pre-Oct 7 it was around $3 billion per year, but probably higher in this bill.

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 30 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty convinced that this is just a spiteful move on her part. She fucking hates MTG and knew this wasnt going to pass. That said even from a liberal perspective you should still agree with a broken clock when its right even if its for the wrong reasons.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago

Right? There was an opportunity to use Republican support for something good and pride got in the way of progress again. In the liberal mind, It's better to chide TACO trump into nuking Palestine than to agree with a Republican when they actually propose something helpful. The real victories are sticking to your guns in the face of progress.

[–] Rhaxapopouetl@ttrpg.network 24 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (4 children)

Is this true? Where can we verify that? Is there a source?

Edit: thank you for your answers

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2025207 6 - 422, she was not one of the six

[–] Elysium@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Just for future reference as well

Drop site is generally one of those "you can probably just believe them" sites. Similar to Ken Klippenstein on domestic US "security" state side of things. That doesn't mean don't verify when you can. Just that they don't generally post bullshit especially regarding Israel and MENA politics.

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

An image claiming to be from them is not to be trusted at face value, however.

AOCIA strikes again.

Let's seem if flattened-bernie gets to Mamdani on easing up language against Pissreal too.

...

Sanders urged his now-protégé to be firm in calling for Democratic leaders to rally behind him but also to more carefully address what he’s said about Israel. ... Sanders, a Brooklyn native, was eager to welcome Mamdani for their first meeting after several phone calls, including a congratulatory one after his primary win. The closest that they’ve come in person before was at Sanders’ October 2019 rally in Queens marking his comeback after a heart attack , which Mamdani used as an early organizing opportunity for his first assembly campaign. side-eye-1 ....

Sanders, who is Jewish, urged Mamdani to be cautious about how he approaches talking about Israel. Both are critics of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s handling of its war in Gaza.

Ahead of the trip, Mamdani told business leaders in New York that he would discourage the use of the phrase “globalize the intifada.” Mamdani, who has not used the phrase himself, has said he believes the phrase to be a rallying cry for Palestinian human rights and refused to condemn its use when asked during his primary campaign.

According to the person familiar with their conversation, Sanders told Mamdani he had to do a better job explaining that his criticism is not antisemitic and to not let himself seem like he’s minimizing the fear Jews in New York and elsewhere feel from the threat of hate against them.

Bolding mine. Bernie seems ro have a difficult time sepersting Zionazis from Judiasm. Plenty of Jews in New York have been on the front lines of anti Pissreal Aktion. af Love how Bernie just erases them and their fears and violence against them by acab-3 and Zionazis.

At the end of the day Mamdani is a Democrat. I hope he doesn't turn into another AOCIA.
