US president Donald Trump was front and center for Chelsea’s trophy lift and was greeted by widespread boos at the Fifa Club World Cup final at a sold-out MetLife Stadium on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Trump was booed while appearing on video boards during the playing of the national anthem before the match, and then later while walking out with Fifa president Gianni Infantino to present the competition’s trophy, individual awards and runners-up medals.

Later, Trump and Infantino jointly carried the Club World Cup trophy to the Chelsea team on the stage. Infantino moved out of frame of television cameras while Trump stayed put, finding himself squarely in focus as Chelsea captain Reece James lifted the trophy and his team-mates celebrated around him.

Missed opportunity with the players lifting it high above Trump.... Oops dropped it on the frail old man and killed him. And fuck those players openly celebrating with him, it's like celebrating with Hitler. That image will not be a good look for them in the future. Why didn't anyone make a player a secret agent and give them a poison dart.

Why was the final heels in America in the first place? Not like they are known for their football prowess.

FIFA is one of the most corrupt organizations in the world and Trump is one of the most corrupt politicians in the world. And yet, the stadium was still sold out.

There were still tickets available the day before, despite heavy discounts. I suspect they used seat filling services in the end to push it to capacity. They had to do so for some of the other knock out stages.

Like everything fifa, it’s because money was funneled to the top most effectively by doing things this way. I don’t understand why anybody in the world still participates in this horrible league.

FIFA has made the Club World Cup an event tied to the World Cup. If you host the World Cup, you now get the Club World Cup as well.
