Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

Hey I just wanted to ask a question to the devs about the app notifications

I've been struggling to stay active in conversations on lemmy because the jerboa app doesn't support notifications apparently? I thought i was just not paying attention but, after doing some digging, I discovered the jerboa app actually blocks permission to send notifications? That would be fine, I can manage without push notifications. Its the fact it doesn't update while I'm using the app that has frustrated me to the point of making a post about it.

My issue is that even while in the app i dont see my notifications either. I have to physically navigate to my notification tab and refresh it to get updates. Its resulted in multiple occasions where I have several replies and dont see them for literal days because I log in and my notifications say the same number as yesterday.

Im unsure if this is an app issue or my personal settings but id appreciate any help with this as its really making conversing on lemmy nearly impossible. Ive left too many people unanswered for days at a time completely unintentionally.

The lemmy back end in general doesn't have mobile push notifications yet, those are still a wip.

The current alternatives are to enable email notifications, or add the inbox feed to an rss reader (although that is pull, not push, so it really isn't different from the app.)

That sucks but makes sense, thanks for the reply and explanation. Any rough idea how far off that update might be? I trust my email notifs even less than my adhd memory lol

Many months, email is unfortunately your best bet for live notifs atm.

Thanks for offering a solution! I'll give it a whirl and see if its any better than nothing. I appreciate you guys having a native app and updating it yourselves. I'm fine with waiting so long as it's something you're aware of and are working on!
