any dem that voted against this will not get my vote. I don't care how close the seat is. If you can't uphold the most basic level of constitutional responsibility, you are no better than a conman Republican.

You're 100% right, but it's not like impeachment seems to do anything about the Trump problem. What's a third impeachment gonna do?

[–] theangriestbird@beehaw.org 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It shows us which Dems are brave and which ones are cowards, by forcing a vote.

[–] TheAlbatross@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think that's true at all. The RNC controls both chambers, the impeachment bill (which wouldn't remove him anyway) would never pass. So the cowardly could still vote for it knowing full well it'll never happen.

The DNC aren't truly against Trump, you gotta remember, otherwise they would have taken action to safeguard the country from fascist rule instead of spending the last 4 years largely doing fuck all.

Cowardly, traitorous, call it whatever you like.

Can I call it a Zamboni? I don't hear that word enough.

My take is they're keeping their powder dry. This wasn't going to go anywhere, and if it ended up being party-line, they're handing Trump the "they're plotting a coup!" card. "THE ONLY THING THAT CAN SAVE AMERICA IS YOU BUYING MY CRYPTO!!!!"

We're only five months in; much worse can still happen. The U.S. told Iran hours ahead of time where it would strike, and the facilities were evacuated. Likewise, in Iran's counterattack, it told both Qatar and the U.S. where it was going to hit so they could evacuate.

This is a show of force on both sides, nothing more. It's not the end, by any means, but as war goes, this remains (what a terrible term in this context) civil. Iran and Israel were not so kind to each other.

Why do they need to keep their powder dry, they could fight and they would find that when they gain more support that they in turn gain more powder.

If the Democrats keep showing themselves to be weak and feckless they will find out the powder they were saving for years and decades will turn out to be talcum powder not gun powder. It will only be useful for putting in their incontinence diapers.

It's abundantly clear there's nothing so egregious Trump can do that congressional Republicans will turn on him and vote to impeach and convict. A battle that can't be won is not a battle worth fighting.

This is the 17th.

Go see.

Happy that my current representative has a spine. I'm in the midst of a move, and my new representative, not so much. Just emailed him to let him know I'll be campaigning against him in the future.

https://clerk.house.gov/evs/2025/roll175.xml (this is not a raw XML file, don't be fooled.) Anyone in italics in the YEAS section is a Democrat that voted to table the impeachment.

[–] LukeZaz@beehaw.org 1 points 6 days ago

Thank you! Absolutely insane that this article mentioned that 128 Democrats were so spineless but almost entirely refused to tell us who. (Not unexpected, mind you, but still insane.)

The political system is completely fucked. The democrats will not save us. I think going grassroots with direct action is currently the best way to both resist, and build horizontal decentralized power that isn't prone to corruption.

  1. find local communities and get involved to make connections
  2. We can effect things drastically with a general strike. This targets the establishment's income streams, and can bring a fascist government to its knees if done on a large enough scale.
  3. Contact a union and attempt to unionize your workplace so that the general strike is even more effective (plus, ya know, better pay and working conditions as a bonus!)

This method would not only work in the US, but anywhere in the world.

Union Suggestions:

  1. Continuing to participate in publicly visible resistance demonstrations like 50501 (the next one is July 17th) to encourage others to stand up with you and prove to that there are millions of others who will join them in the fight. A large part of Nazi Germany's success in taking over the country was a lack of massive public demonstrations against the new regime, making people feel helpless and afraid to take a stand.

If we put in the work, we can resist this and we can win. Look at how effective these methods were when used in Chile in 2019.. If we completely reject the political system and rebel on a mass scale, there is NOTHING they can do to stop us.

Honestly, I don't care. It's not like anything was ever going to happen on this front anyway. I'm sure they figured this was a free opportunity to show voters that they don't always toe the party line.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

When the party line in question is "don't belligerently attack people, ya war criminals", it's okay to toe that line.

[–] chaos@beehaw.org 1 points 1 week ago

I'm not saying they were right, I would've voted to impeach too, I'm saying it will have zero effect on the world so there isn't much sense in getting upset about it.
