Everyone hates Palantir, but the only difference between them and every other massive tech company, is they started off evil rather than having to work their way up to it.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Anyone that works for that company at any level deserves the absolute worst

[–] reiterationstation@lemm.ee 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Would be a shame if someone were to get a list of their names.

[–] muusemuuse@lemm.ee 2 points 19 hours ago

Just convince Elon they are his competition and watch this work itself out.

Lots of people will be happier the day Peter Thiel dies... He's disliked in the same range as Musk, without having anywhere near the public presence.

[–] mp3@piefed.ca 72 points 1 day ago

Which makes him more dangerous than Musk IMO, as he's wise enough to operate in the shadow.

That dude is pure evil.

A narcissist who somehow made it trough and still have a relevamce.

[–] flamingo_pinyata@sopuli.xyz 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Musk is a narcissist who got very lucky in life. But still he is a human, bad human but relatable in the sense you understand his flaws.

Thiel is something else. Sociopath I guess. Dude is not human and doesn't function according to any understandable human psychology

Before settling in Foster City, California, in 1977, the Thiel family lived in South Africa and South West Africa (modern-day Namibia). Peter changed elementary schools seven times. He attended a German-language school in Swakopmund that required students to wear uniforms and utilized corporal punishment, such as striking students' hands with a ruler. He said this experience instilled a distaste for uniformity and regimentation later reflected in his support for individualism and libertarianism.[20][21] The German community in Swakopmund that Thiel grew up in was known at the time for its continued glorification of Nazism.[22][23]

Thiel and Muskrat cut from the same cloth of trustfund babies and apartheid benefactors, m8

Peter Thiel is one of the many money men that want to privatize everything, dismantle federal government, hand keys to "network states" (company towns but somehow worse).

Goal is none or self regulation. Maximize profits. They want to shape the world into this hyper capitalistic society and surveillance state. Palantir is just one of those companies in a massive portfolio to fulfill this stupid dream shared by many industrialists.

Waiting for them to die is the best you can do since you all keep voting for 1 of the 2 parties that serve these oligarchs.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I tend to vote for the Australian Greens party. They never seem to win the US elections though.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Oh sorry, had mistaken you for American.
I'm sure they have at least the same odds of winning the US elections as the American Greens.

Data analytics firm doesn't like ... data on itself being analyzed. huh.

It's strangely appropriate that these bastards named themselves after the magical sphere that Sauron used to turn Sarumon evil in LotR.

[–] GamingChairModel@lemmy.world 51 points 1 day ago

Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale

Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Sarumon, nice typo.

Popeball

[–] rottingleaf@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Sauron used conversations and scenes to turn Saruman charmed and deadly frightened. Over the palantir, which was a device to see the future, the past, the probable, close and far away. Thus also a communication device.

So basically their name refers to knowing things which are not their fucking concern. Not what you said.

EDIT: Still, the way communication of Saruman and Denethor with Sauron turned them both mad - is a good metaphor of how lots of awesome technology was misused to almost ruin humanity in the last 30 years. I wonder if it's reversible.

Ed Snowden in only warned us about them 13 years ago.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I would not be surprised if Palantir told Krasnov not to fuck around and disturb their live-fire Ukrainian laboratory.
