They shouldn't be compared at all because absolutely nothing connects them.

Well...there is one thing they have in common.
Just like “Room (2015)” and “The Room (2003)” right?
Isn't Prey (2017) well liked?
Yes. Prey (2017) is a really good game. Worst thing about it is that the studio forced this stupid name choice.
On the other hand I would guess the old one has aged badly.
The publisher for Prey (2017) also bullied an indie developer to change the name of their upcoming game "Prey for the Gods" around the time Prey (2017) was coming out.
Is that why it's called Præy for the Gods?!
Correct. I can imagine it didn't help their search engine optimization.
Should have gone with Neuroshock
The old one is actually still a pretty innovative shooter. Story, tone and gameplay are just totally different from the new one. So someone coming from the new one trying out the old will be disappointed.
Same reason why the new one was criticised on release.
I really wish we could get some of the responsible people to explain their reasoning.
That's what I thought. I bought it recently on a GOG sale but haven't played it yet. But all I hear about Prey (2017) is people raving about how great it is.
I know I bounced from it back when it came out because I expected a continuation of the previous Prey. Maybe I'll have to have another look
If you enjoyed Bioshock, it's essentially Bioshock in space. Well...wayyyy more 'space' than System Shock, considering the gravity mechanics that Prey uses.
Porque no los dos?
And don’t blame 2017 too harshly - they were forced to use the Prey name because brand recognition = money, or so they say.
I'll never get over the horrible way Bethesda handled Prey 2. Bought it up, strung the devs at human head studios along towards bankruptcy in a hostile takeover bid, then shut it all down, gave the trademark to arkane's system/bio shock spiritual successor, and basically erased the old game by virtue of it not being able to be sold any more.
I wanted the stupid alien bounty hunter fps, I didn't want 50+ hours of stupid black goo aliens pretending to be tea cups. I'm biased and salty, I know prey 2017 is a fine game, but I don't really care.
11 years? Since what? Prey 2017 came out… 8 years ago?
Also, in what way are the two games comparable aside from the title? Isn’t the first one a linear FPS while 2017 is an immersive sim?
