Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Lol. Lmao, even.

You're much better off selling the fucking thing at that point instead of continuing to put the lives of you and your passengers at risk in a death trap. this-is-fine

this is the kind of thing that you need when you have built the vehicle yourself from an $800 kit that is not allowed on public roads.. it should not be a recognizable phenomenon on a $80,000 luxury vehicle.

Unfortunately, these things crashing and becoming an untameable fireball affects more than just the buyer

[–] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@hexbear.net 2 points 20 hours ago

And even more unfortunately the front passengers have better escape options than the rear.

We've reached the point where there are a few decent options in the space, Lucid has a thing where they give you a huge rebate if you trade in a Tesla while buying one of theirs which is funny.

The fucking zip tie holding a keyring to the steel cable....

As if the Tesla situation couldn't get dumber, the owners really bring it home.

Also.... do you think these people tell their passengers about it whenever they get into the car? Or are the owners assuming they will have the capacity to explain it in the moment of the crash/fire?

I can just imagine a Tesla owner inviting a friend or family member to be a passenger, just so they can brag about the car while they drive on the interstate, and then casually mentioning the DIY rip cords, making the passenger instantly regret that they didn't set up a will before they got in.

“Hey so let me tell you about some of the modifications I did…”

Oddly enough, Tesla themselves made a better emergency release in the model 3 which is just a normal lever in front of the normal latch.

Elon explaining his Super ~~villain~~ Ozymandias plot:

And with this software update, all the Teslas in the world will lock themselves, incinerating the occupants inside and establishing a world free of chuds!

Sure, if you wanna void the warranty...

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

Don't the cars have a secondary release built in for if the powered opening doesn't work? Or is it just every single other car with power doors that has that and not Teslas?
