Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Irritatingly, the journalist fails to link this to increased poverty and food insecurity.

Someone recently told me that this wasn’t a sign of poverty, then doubled down.

I hope that "somebody" got roundly bullied.

[–] DerRedMax@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Really? Because I was in a Greggs the other day and didn’t see a fucking thing.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Eh?

Every greggs i've ever been to has been a behind-the-counter setup, you go to the till and tell them what you want then they hand them over.

[–] RaisedFistJoker@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

every greggs has like shelfs of cold stuff in packets (think 4 cold sausage rolls)

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I've only really seen a drinks fridge? Sometimes has crap sarnies in it.

objectively the worst country in the world

[–] TheWolfOfSouthEnd@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I dunno, we’re only a step behind the USA but…actually no, fuck them both. This place is a shit hole and the foothold Reform are gaining is terrifying.

[–] RaisedFistJoker@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

you can resolve this contradiction by accepting that the uk is part of the us, and is not an independent state

100%. That’s why a lot of Europe don’t like us/probably won’t let us back in.

[–] CeliacMcCarthy@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

at least in the usa there's guns and legal weed and enough wilderness and wasteland to disappear into

[–] TheWolfOfSouthEnd@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Guns are allowed here, we just don’t have the issues. Our position on weed is fucking stupid.

[–] sgtlion@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The UK has guns, weed is practically decriminalised and there are still swathes of unpopulated land. So that's not much of a difference.

[–] CeliacMcCarthy@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

The UK has guns

no it doesn't i been there

weed is practically decriminalised

a shorter way to say that is "weed is illegal"

there are still swathes of unpopulated land

i been there, there's nowhere you won't encounter an old white man or his sheep
