Not here to talk about Apollo + Moonlight (though it's been working great). I mostly wanted to share how wild it is that I’m comfortably playing a super heavy Skyrim modlist (2000+ mods) that doesn’t have native controller support… on my couch with the Deck.

Ever since I got my Deck a few months ago, sitting at my desk to game has felt like a chore. I’d rather just kick back on the couch with the Deck.

I had the itch to play Skyrim again (we’ve all been there), but this time with a massive loadout. I knew most of these big modlists aren't made with controller support in mind, they’re clearly tailored for mouse/keyboard. Still, I gave it a shot. The basic gamepad inputs worked out of the box via Moonlight, and I thought, hey, maybe I can just map the rest.

And that’s where the Deck blew me away.

The controller mapping system on the Deck is honestly a game-changer. I was able to tweak everything, even add custom layer toggles and shift buttons. I don’t love using the back buttons, so I moved some secondary stuff around, but even with that, I got everything feeling super natural.

It feels like the modlist has native controller support… even though it absolutely doesn’t.

Anyway, just wanted to drop some love for the mapping system. Being able to run a massive PC modlist and play it in a handheld, ergonomic way is just one of those “Steam Deck magic” moments.
