So he’s trying to kill his own company? I feel like Elon more than anyone bought the lie that the us government was universally overgrown and bloated and could easily withstand being stripped, which is obviously not the case

It's a single car company. World economy doesn't depend on Tesla's success. Not even the American economy. If Tesla dies, it's just a canary in the coalmine for much, much bigger economic problems. Like, you know, how they put dipshits in the White House, or something. So it's kind of interesting that Elon has a moment of lucidity here, because no one around him seems to realise how screwed they are.

At this point, it's pretty obvious his entire goal with DOGE was to dismantle federal agencies that were either investigating him in some way, or were trying to regulate his companies. So, I guess this means Tesla can't survive without him actively gaming the system in his favor.
What he actually means:
"If the ship of Tesla goes down, I will take America with it."
Or... I will happily destroy America to extend my wealth

From what I hear BYD is better than Tesla at this point. I think we've come to the time where China is reaching parity with us tech. I mean what do we have that they don't?
It is very, VERY far from being that simple. They are several decades behind the US and EU in jet turbine technology, for instance. And their chip foundries are definitely not considered bleeding edge. You have to go to SK and Taiwan for that. And part of Taiwan’s publicized defense policy is “we will melt our chip foundries to slag if the PRC invades”. Them being basically the best in the world at chip fabrication was a strategic investment (in a very literal geopolitical sense) that they began in the 70s and 80s.

It's because the company is fully subsidized by carbon credits and government funding. The crazy brand valuation is based on fully autonomous driving and person less cabs which will never happen at Tesla.

I didn't watch that movie was it the iceberg?
There's the guy who urges the captain to increase the ship's speed, so they can arrive a day early and impress everyone that the "unsinkable" ship is also super fast. And then sneaks his way onto a lifeboat at the end, when they're only supposed to be taking women and children. Arguably a parallel to Musk in that he's partly responsible for the sinking of the ship.
Much more prominent is Rose's (Kate Winslet) rich scumbag fiance who refers to Jack (Leo DiCaprio) as a "gutter rat", responds to "half the people on this ship are going to die" with "not the better half", tries to bribe with cash one of the men loading boats in order to secure himself a slot, and ultimately manages to get on a boat by picking up a random crying child and claiming it as his own. Much more like Musk himself, but not really a parallel in having resposibility for the ship sinking.

We bought a Hyundai EV. Would have seriously considered a Tesla, but.
Model 3 was my next car for years. Now it's the Ioniq 6. I'm just so grateful that we are only now able to plan a car purchase this year, and not in the last 2 or 3 years where we would now be stuck in a Tesla.

The context here was him saying that he couldn't justify spending all his time at Tesla, since his expertise was required to keep America from going down.
