It looks like a parody animal animatronic in a hollywood comedy, i LOVE it XD

[–] Biskii@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Seriously. This isn't real, right?

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 53 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It’s real! Quokkas are like the happiest animals on Earth:

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Happiest looking, at least. I don't think they're actually delighted all the time?

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Probably not all the time, but on their island they have no natural predators, so they do live pretty carefree lives.

They even have a Lemmy instance!

It's unsettling. The uncanny valley of the animal world

Behold, the modern human. As they ponder a face of natural happiness they find it disturbing and untrustworthy.

Truly a fascinating species!

It doesnt look real but Quokka's exist. They live exclusively on a small island off the coast of Perth. Rottnest island. It's Dutch and it translates to the rat's nest.

[–] marsupial9272@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

The mainly live on Rottnest but it’s not exclusive. There are small populations on the mainland as well. But they are threatened by predators and other human activities there and so populations have dropped dramatically since the 1930s. However, a population was just found in the Perth Hills late last year!

It doesn't look real, but it's also not triggering my AI-radar.

[–] cholesterol@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It looks stuffed, almost. Why is it eating a dead leaf? And those faces can't just be 'smiles'.

[–] M137@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Quokkas have a nickname; "happiest animal in the world". It's fully because they look happy, not because they actually are. They just happen to look happy most of the time for our brains to see them as that, and sadly that has started a trend of people getting them as pets, because people are idiots.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

The faces are that of a serial killer, smugly pleased with their work.

[–] OrderedChaos@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

The dead leaf looks to be a leaf that has two colors. The bottom is just more brown than green.
