Im looking for an app for android that allows streaming audio books, downloads ect.

Any favorites? From fdroid or mobilism?

Edit: I have audiobookshelf hosted and a small library, but I want a deeper selection. Im not looking for an audio book player so much as a streaming app with access to anything.

Look, you've already got the best audiobook player. The problem you're having now is sourcing, the solution is to get a MyAnonymouse account. They do open registrations fairly often and it's literally the easiest private tracker to keep up with. You may not want to torrent, but I don't think you're gonna find a better way to get the selection you want. MAM really is the best.

This here! Myanonymouse is the best source for audiobooks.

Far, far better than audiobookbay

That's some high praise, ABB has been excellent for me. I'll have to keep an eye out for open registration.

me as well, and I still use them when I'm on mobile and want a quick fix (MAM doesn't allow mobile clients because they make it hard to track your stats).

I think so. It's very rare I can't find what I'm looking for.

What about their language selection?

[–] Maruki_Hurakami@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Good question! I honestly don't know.

If you want to host it, audiobook shelf is great. I use it for audiobooks, ebooks, and podcasts.

Other than that I'd just say get a library card and use Libby. If you have files in your phone playbook works but I don't remember if its on fdroid.

I love Libby but my county library is about to get defunded by 90% which means digital books are gonna be scarce.

Voice has never made me want a different player, fwiw.

I love Voice

Can you specify the name of the app or where to find it?

[–] HowShouldIKnow@lemm.ee 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

If you have a library card they may use the Libby app for ebooks and audiobooks. My apologies for a non-piracy answer.

[–] Kuvwert@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I like libby a ton but don't love the waiting game for some selections

[–] HowShouldIKnow@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm with you. All the other replies seem to assume you already have the audiobooks you want. Are you trying to stream audiobooks you possess or source audiobooks?

[–] Kuvwert@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Source them for sure

It's a great app, but does it do streaming? I've only ever used it with local files on my phone.

[–] 0xtero@beehaw.org 5 points 10 months ago

No, I guess it doesn't connect to any streaming service. I use Google Drive to store my books and just copy whatever I need from there.

I use playbook. It's fine. Simple, good controls. Works with super-long files and smaller subset files.

I'm pretty sure I got it on fdroid.

[–] Xirup@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 10 months ago

Are you sure you get it on F-droid? I can't find it.

Being able to download from my Plex library made this an easy pick for me.

Glad you like it. Enjoy.

I use Smart Audiobook Player. Only downside is renaming .m4b files to .m4a.
