English is my first language. Any mistakes were made with the ability to not do that.

Have you seen that movie What About Bob? Please keep in mind the scene where Bob loudly enjoys the doctor’s wife’s cooking.

I watched it in highschool (years ago) a little while before my older-baby-half-brother “Red” was born. I helped out a lot because that’s what the oldest/older sibling does, right? Looking back from a healthier place, I recognize the parentification. But at the time, this was about as much sass as my teenage self could muster and I still get a giggle out of it.

When Red could eat baby food purées, I was the one who would feed him. This was boring. And messy. And took a while. And couldn’t be done while I was eating my own food.

So to entertain myself, I made dramatic noises. And Red LOVED it. He actually started copying me! After a few days he didn’t even need prompting anymore. He would MMMMMMMMM after each bite of food on his own.

Mother Dearest hated it when they finally had dinner at the same time. But it was too late to stop the determined and happy Red. You wanna know what she hated more? The noise didn’t stop when I moved out of state for a year and a half! Red taught “Copper” (after he was born and started eating off a spoon) how to MMMMM after each bite. And I wasn’t even there!

It just kept giving.

I remembered this the other day when my daughter mmmm-ed eating her purée and I just laughed. (Mother Dearest threatened teaching my children for revenge BUT we’re estranged and I find the mmmm-ing adorable.)
