Image is allegedly of the note Trump wrote while editing a speech while on the way back from the G20 summit.

The top Russian-Chinese agent, Donald Trump, has decided that the pace of dedollarization and the decline of American financial hegemony is going too slowly. He has therefore decided to put tariffs on everybody; from America's largest trading partners to uninhabited islands. In the process, he is trying to create an autarkic America. Jokes aside, interpretation and analysis of this has ranged across a wide spectrum. I think we can broadly agree that the most idiotic are the "true believers"; those that actually believe Trump's every word, and that this will somehow bring back American manufacturing and whatever other inane promises he has made.

However, there is a much more interesting debate. The first camp are those who believe Trump is acting as an inadvertent accelerationist due to his lack of understanding about how the world economy and dollar hegemony functions (and that this will subsequently ensure that countries flock to China instead). The second camp are those who believe that Trump does know what he's doing, at least to a certain extent, and that the effective result of this period of madness will be countries kowtowing to the United States; renegotiating trade deals to be even more in favor of the US in order to get tariffs reduced. There's even a yet more cynical camp who believes that in fact, this entire trade war is just theater for further national wealth redistributions from poor to rich; that all these monumental international trade wars are more of a sideshow. To quote the linked article: "[...] out of the mountain of tariffs that threaten to turn into a global trade war will emerge the mouse of further tax cuts."

I'm not embarrassed to admit that I have absolutely no idea which one of these is the closest model to reality. We're in new economic and political ground, and even if the tariffs are quickly renegotiated and/or dropped, the impacts will continue to reverberate around the world for years. I'm sure we'll debate this for months to come here, though!

U.S. Airstrikes in Yemen Fail to Halt Houthi Operations Amid Ongoing Support for Palestine - Telesur English

Article

Despite the constant U.S. airstrikes against Yemen, Washington has not succeeded in its objective of curbing Yemeni operations against vessels linked to Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. According to reports, U.S. bombings intensified on March 15 following an order issued by former President Trump.

Al Jazeera reported that a U.S. official stated that since the beginning of the campaign, Washington has targeted over 300 sites in Yemen, utilizing B2 bombers deployed from Diego Garcia military base.

However, authorities admit that it is “premature” to assess the effectiveness of these operations, as “the Houthis can still attack U.S. Navy and other ships in the region,” the source noted.

The White House has repeatedly emphasized that aggressions against Yemen will continue until actions against vessels linked to Israel cease in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden. Nevertheless, Yemeni officials assert that they will maintain their operations until aggression against the Palestinian people stops.

In a recent military deployment, the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson arrived in Southwest Asia to reinforce U.S. presence after Ansar Allah claimed that another ship, the USS Truman, had retreated northward in the Red Sea after being threatened by Yemeni missiles and drones. The intense U.S. bombings, which have also involved participation from the United Kingdom against civilian infrastructure, have failed to weaken Houthi resistance.

The ongoing conflict highlights the complexities of regional dynamics and the challenges faced by external powers attempting to influence outcomes in Yemen while grappling with broader geopolitical issues related to Palestine and Israeli interests.

Honduran President Xiomara Castro Opens the 9th CELAC Summit - Telesur English

Article

She pointed out that CELAC must be more than a forum and become a tool for emancipation. On Wednesday, Honduran President Xiomara Castro inaugurated the 9th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), an event during which she will transfer the pro tempore presidency of this regional integration institution to Colombia.

“Today, Honduras hands over the CELAC pro tempore presidency not as a ceremonial act but as a political one,” she said, and explained the importance of keeping CELAC alive amid the tense global situation caused by the U.S. trade war.

“Maintaining this space in the midst of fragmentation and siege has been difficult, but it has been necessary to show that we continue working for unity, as the continent of hope and political diversity,” Castro recalled.

“CELAC is not a perfect organization, but it is ours. It was born from a dream, an ideal, and a utopia of our liberators and founding fathers: the Latin American integration in the face of the great powers.”

“This dream of unity and of a greater homeland is more urgent than ever today, as the old neoliberal order imposed on our countries collapses and the great powers like the United States redraw their economic map without asking which countries are left behind,” the Honduran president stated.

To highlight the importance of international cooperation and solidarity, Castro criticized the actions that Western powers deploy against the peoples of the world.

“We condemn the cruel and inhumane economic blockade that the United States has maintained against the heroic Cuban people for more than 64 years. Cuba does not export terrorists. It exports scientists, doctors, and the dignity our peoples demand,” she stressed.

“We recognize the sovereignty of the Argentine people over the Malvinas Islands, the clamor for peace in the Gaza Strip… We recognize the resistance of Haiti, which demands a sovereign homeland whose destiny is defined by its people and not by foreign interference.”

To conclude, the Honduran president recalled the most important figures in the founding of CELAC, an institution to which she asked to remain faithful to the dreams of historical leaders such as Simon Bolivar, Hugo Chavez, and Fidel Castro, among others.

“We are certain that CELAC will not only overcome its challenges but will keep alive the dreams of revolutionaries and of peoples who never give up. As Commander Chavez used to say, ‘Utopia is on the horizon, and we walk toward it so we never stop walking.’”

Stranger still, is that the gap isn't narrowing much as the CNE count progresses through provinces where the RC excels. CNE's figures suggest that Luisa didn't gain votes even with all the endorsements she received in round 1. Not even Pachakutik's votes? Inconceivable.

Bolsonaro becomes a defendant for attempted coup d'état. Jair Bolsonaro is the first former Brazilian president to be charged with leading an attempted coup d'état.

The First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided to accept the complaint against him and seven other former members of his government, including three army generals - Augusto Heleno (former Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet), Paulo Sérgio Nogueira (former Minister of Defense) and Braga Netto (former Minister of the Civil House). They are said to be part of what the Attorney General's Office (PGR) called the “crucial nucleus” of a coup plot against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's victory in the 2022 elections. They all deny the accusations.

Bolsonaro is urgently treated in a hospital in Rio Grande do Norte. The former president felt severe pain as a result of the stab wound he suffered in 2018 and will be transferred by helicopter to Natal.

Jair Bolsonaro was admitted to hospital in the city of Santa Cruz, in Rio Grande do Norte. He felt severe pain as a result of the stabbing attack he suffered in 2018 and sought medical attention at the Aluízio Bezerra Municipal Hospital. The former president will be transferred by helicopter to Natal. Bolsonaro was traveling in the Northeast to strengthen the presence of his party, the PL (Liberal Party, Far-Right), in the region. The project launched was called Route 22 and consists of a series of visits, workshops and seminars across the country, starting in Rio Grande do Norte.

The former president was on the road to Tangará when he felt unwell. According to people close to the retired captain, he had been suffering from intestinal obstruction for a few days. The trip began on Friday.

US airstrikes did continue on Yemen for the 30th night in a row, with strikes targeting a factory leading to the killing of civilians. Sana’a and Marib Governorate were targeted by multiple rounds of airstrikes. There were two significant statements from the Yemeni Armed Forces, one to do with firing Medium Range Ballistic Missiles (MRBMs) at Israel, another to do with shooting down the 19th MQ-9 Reaper drone.

The launching of MRBMs at Israel again is a significant development. It's been 14 days, exactly two weeks, since the last MRBM launch, and 17 days since the last launch of a MaRV capable Palestine-2 MRBM. So Ansarallah is fighting to maintain and rebuild capabilities amongst the intense US Navy air campaign against it. As a commentator pointed out earlier today, THAAD air defence interceptor missiles were likely used to intercept the MaRV of the Palestine-2 missile. There were pictures of the boosters online.

As for how the MQ-9s get shot down even during the ongoing SEAD campaign, these shootdowns don't happen over Sana'a or Saada Governorates where a pathway has been opened up to allow them to operate without being shot down and even on video, but in other areas. Also, there is a surface to air loitering munition that Ansarallah have called Missile-358. It's basically a Lancet, but for taking out air targets. It's not a traditional air defence system with a radar and so forth. Perfect for slow and low flying drones in visual range like the MQ-9.

Warning for potential graphic imagery of casualties during ongoing airstrikes:

President Nicolás Maduro at CELAC: “The Unity of Peoples is an Obligation for Humanity’s Well-being” - Telesur English

Article

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro urges regional unity at CELAC summit, critiques U.S. sanctions, and proposes stronger cooperation to counter global challenges.

President Maduro Emphasizes Regional Unity at CELAC Summit

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro participated in the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), where he emphasized the importance of unity among nations as a global imperative for collective well-being.

During his address, Maduro proposed that CELAC revive its Ministerial Councils to strengthen cooperation among member states.

Proposal for a CELAC General Secretariat

President Maduro stressed that Venezuela is advocating for the creation of a CELAC General Secretariat to ensure timely meetings in strategic areas benefiting the region. The Venezuelan leader also highlighted that nations worldwide are victims of multifaceted aggressions, as denounced by the governments of Nicaragua, Cuba, and Venezuela.

U.S. Sanctions Blamed for Decline of Western Globalization

In his speech, Maduro described coercive measures imposed by the U.S. government as responsible for the decline of Western globalization. He argued these actions have undermined international trade and economic rights, as well as bilateral and multilateral trade agreements.

“They seek to impose a new hegemonic economic and commercial model designed to dismantle the multipolar world that has emerged in recent decades,” he warned.

Migrant Crisis: “Assault on Civilization”

President Maduro also condemned aggression against Venezuelan migrants, calling it “the most severe assault on civilization since the era of fascism and Nazism.” In this context, he criticized the application of the U.S. Foreign Enemies Act of 1798, which criminalizes migrants.

Venezuela’s Dual Challenges: Economic and Humanitarian Aggression

President Maduro noted that Venezuela has faced two types of aggressions from the U.S. government: economic and humanitarian. He urged CELAC countries to raise a unified voice and form a bloc of shared perspectives and proposals to address these challenges.

Call for Collaboration and Sovereignty in a Multipolar World

Finally, the Venezuelan president called for collaborative efforts to advance global development and congratulated Colombia’s government for assuming CELAC’s pro tempore presidency. “To build a shared destiny, we must unite in diversity and champion this century with self-determination, sovereignty, and freedom,” Maduro concluded.

What a coward. Take control of the Fed and peg the yields like what Japan does, Don. Then go back to tariffs on all countries based on their trade balance. trump-moist

Really, Trump got screwed over by fed doing nothing. Someone needs to show that central banks don't have power over treasury.

Funnily enough, Modi did it in 2016 when he had the central bank default on bank notes and all the bureaucrats obeyed even though Central bank was nominally independent. It was a shitty policy (just like tariffs) but it showed the executive, not central bank has the real power.

If any leftist ever takes over the U.S. and bond markets behave like this; be sure to coerce, take over Fed and have them do YCC, or maybe let the yields rise and stop issuing more debt. Bond markets don't have power over the Government not being able to "borrow". True, Trump tariffs would have (and will) hurt Dollar's global standing long term but that's not what happened with the bond yields.

Santo Domingo Nightclub Disaster’s Death Toll to 124 - Telesur English

ArticleThe incident at the Jet Set nightclub happened while merengue singer Rubby Perez was performing.

On Wednesday, the Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised the death toll to 124 from the accident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, when the roof of a well-known nightclub in Santo Domingo collapsed.

So far, authorities have rescued 155 people from the rubble and transported them to various hospitals, COE Director Gen. Juan Mendez said.

The incident at the Jet Set nightclub happened while merengue singer Rubby Perez was performing. His body was recovered in the early hours of Wednesday.

In response to the tragedy, President Luis Abinader declared three days of national mourning from April 8 to 10. During this time, the National Flag is to be flown at half-mast at military facilities and public buildings across the country.

The accident occurred during a blackout, while singer Rubby Perez was performing and a crowd of spectators was enjoying the merengue show. Rescue and emergency forces were immediately deployed, consisting of more than 400 responders who worked for 12 continuous hours at the scene, using heavy machinery and trained dogs.

The text reads, “124 dead in the Jet Set nightclub accident in Santo Domingo.”

The deaths of several notable individuals present at the scene have been confirmed, including Rubby Perez, former Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel, Montecristi province governor Nelsy Cruz, and fashion designer Martin Polanco.

“We presume that many of them are still alive, and that is why the authorities present here will not rest until there is not a single person left under that rubble,” Mendez said.

According to preliminary investigations, the building had structural problems prior to the incident, as a fire had previously damaged part of the facilities.

Although some repair work was carried out, the structural condition was never publicly verified, nor was a clear report issued on the measures taken to ensure public safety.

Claudia Sheinbaum Promotes Agenda of Unity and Economic Well-Being at CELAC - Telesur English

Article

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum champions Latin American unity at CELAC, rejecting sanctions and proposing a regional economic summit for equity, clean energy, and social justice.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum participated in the IX Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), emphasizing the need for a Latin American unity agenda that rejects economic blockades and proposes a summit focused on the region’s economic welfare.

Despite her brief remarks due to national commitments, Sheinbaum issued a strong call for solidarity among Latin American nations amid growing disparities in international trade.

During her speech, the Mexican leader firmly opposed coercive measures imposed on countries like Cuba and Venezuela, arguing that such blockades exacerbate inequality and hinder regional peace. “We reject sanctions that harm our peoples,” she stated, reaffirming Mexico’s foreign policy principle of self-determination.

Sheinbaum proposed creating a Regional Economic Well-Being Summit, stressing that geographic proximity among Latin American nations should translate into effective cooperation in critical areas like education, clean energy, and social justice. “No country should be left behind,” she emphasized, positioning CELAC as a platform for shared prosperity rooted in equity.

She also linked her participation to the achievements of Mexico’s Fourth Transformation, highlighting Mexican humanism as part of a rich legacy of historical struggles and ancestral wisdom that inspires her integrative vision.

Sheinbaum concluded by thanking Honduran President Xiomara Castro for the invitation, reinforcing Mexico-Honduras ties and exemplifying CELAC’s solidarity-driven diplomacy. Her message resonated as a call for collective action to address Latin America’s challenges in today’s global context.
