Now add the fact I'm my own boss (so no real weekends, there's always work to do) and have a small child and the feelings of guilt are coming in regardless, either I'm neglecting my work, or my child! It's a win-win!

Every damn time. 2days is toodamn short though. I'd prefer to feel guilty for 3.

accomplishing nothing IS taking your time and recharging. whoever fooled you into thinking you need to be productive every waking moment is a boot licker

Sure, but who does all the chores, the taxes, the gardening, time with the kids, visit my parents, clean the attic, etc...

This is why i wonder if somehow two parents is just not enough these days.

I dont think many are capable of complex relationships with multiple partners (my insecurities are enough for two - having more greatly complicates things!) but i can see where this is the unhelpful byproduct of our individualistic culture - keeping some grandparents at hand for the juggling really makes sense.

That relationship is complicated enough though, even at arms length!

I mean things used to make more "sense" time and energy wise when you were able to have one parent work and one parent stay home. But it's just not really financially feasible nowadays. The people I know with kids are absolutely fucking drowning right now trying to both work and take care of the home life. I feel bad for them but there's not much I can do about it. It's not my family.

Also, it is not the most fulfilling or rewarding if you have to always stay at home. You only have one life, you want to make the most of it. For most people that is not a stay-at-home-parent.

They used to say "it takes a village to raise a child" and that is exactly how it used to be. But "the village" as a social structure is rare these days.

It’s like that in China, the whole family helps no matter what. Every time I come back to the US it’s a bummer.

Is there such a thing as feeling too seen?

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean, what do normal people do?

I can genuinely only assume that I am missing 5 hours in my day. I have no clue how people are able to do so much with the time that they have.

[–] Sivecano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

I feel seen

[–] Cold_Brew_Enema@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Holy fuck this is exactly how I've felt the last year.
