i click the link from my email inbox; it open lemmy.ml; and then the spiny circle just keeps spinning with no feedback of anykind. i have to close the browser tab to do anything else.

Try PMing the Lemmy devs or just wait until one of them checks this post. They are the owners of lemmy.ml.

If you mean Davel, he's not one of the Lemmy devs. I meant nutomic or dessalines.

I don’t know what that’s about, but I never gave lemmy.ml my email address because it doesn’t require one, and I would gain nothing by giving it.

that could explain why the confirmation doesn't work if an email address is not required.

🤷 In any case, unless you want to use the “Send notifications to Email” feature, or you’re worried about losing your password, there’s no reason to give your email.

my old email address was in the settings page, so i presumed that i had used that to sign up when i created this account and it's probably a matter of time until mozilla's password manager gets compromised and leaks my password, but even then i have a hard time imagining how a dark web user or my government could benefit from it.

thanks for answering my question.

Unfortunately I haven’t answered your original question. I don’t sysadmin lemmy.ml so I’m not in a position to.
