More like "I need any reliable information." And you're lucky if the last panel happens.

A lot of times, it takes a good chunk of the day to sift through the garbage to find answers

.... or confirmation bias .... looking for information to confirm things you already thought or believed while dismissing other stronger counterpoints.

A healthy independent news media with free and fair journalists that ask and question authority is a good place to start. The more independent journalists we have that ask pertinent questions the better off we would be. The news media and journalists were originally thought to be one of the pillars of modern democracy because in order to provide proper checks and balances to those in power, whoever they are on whatever political spectrum, having those on the outside of the system constantly asking questions and holding everyone to account for everything that is said and done is vitality important.

And a free and fair and open media community does not include a big mega corporation that owns and controls most or all of the media groups and journalists in a country.

Without journalists or a free and open independent media, then we are left on our own to figure out what is right/wrong, proper/improper, lawful/unlawful, decent/indecent, moral/immoral .... and as much as we would like to think that we can do all this, most of us don't have the training or the time to be able to find all the information we need in order to make a proper judgement.
