“We don’t avoid talks; it’s the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far,” Pezeshkian said in televised remarks during a Cabinet meeting. “They must prove that they can build trust.”

This is Trump we’re talking about. He’s setting the standards impossibly high lol

I love that Iran talks about the US leadership the way Ukraine talks about Putin.

Trump trying to project his power is having the interesting effect of reducing the effect of that power.

It's almost like international relations takes skill and intelligence.

And nuance... Definitely lacking in that dept

Kind of surprised here. You'd think Iran would be welcoming Trump's corruption. Corruption helps corruption.

No? Remember that it was Trump that tore up the nuclear treaty Iran had with, well, everyone and reimposed sanctions. They definitely benefit from America being led by an incompetent, corrupt and above all authoritarian president like Trump, but they sure as hell don't like him and have no interest in being sabotaged by his brand of "diplomacy".

This. There's no honor among crooks and thieves. If anything this could be the collapse of a lot of other alliances. Russia and Iran's General cordiality and cooperation has largely been based on shared opposition of the west. Now that our government has been thoroughly corrupted by them and the lunatics who live here. Alienating all our friends and allies. They'll likely turn their sights on each other.

I agreed until you said Iran benefits. They don't. They're just surviving until they don't.

One one hand they definitely benefit from less US soft power and a less efficient US military (because those are often used against them), but on the other hand the US-Russia alliance stands to take away their closest non-proxy ally. It's a double edged sword, but there are upsides for them.

Fair. Thanks.
