Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.

I find this survey interesting since it seems the information that reach the US is quite different.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

...You've noticed that, have you?

[–] thejml@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

It greatly depends on the news source. Some of us in America follow multiple sources so we get better data, and if you’re smart, many of those are from overseas and not propaganda based.

But none of those matter to the orange king and his cronies, which seems to be the center of everything.

Let me stop you right there, we don't get 'information'in the US, that might actually inform some people and we don't like that here.

Unfortunately

@troed@fedia.io please edit the post and add the link to the post itself.

[–] troed@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's been there the whole time.

[–] BrikoX@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Link the URL to the post, not just include the link in the post body as it is now.

Even on Fedia it's not linked, so it's not federation issue. https://fedia.io/m/globalnews@lemmy.zip/t/1915621

I have no idea what you're trying to convey here.

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 months ago

Your post is a text post, with the link in the post body.

They are asking you to make it into a link post, that links to the article.

Copy the link from text field, into the url field.

[–] BrikoX@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Your post (1) is text post without link attached.
I want you to attach the link to the post itself as is done in the post (2).

[–] troed@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I cannot view your link and I see nothing in the Fedia fields for making a new Thread that can be done differently than I did.

Giving up. Feel free to remove.

Fellow Mbin user here.

When I go and press edit on a text-only thread of mine, I get the following fields in order:

  1. URL (empty)
  2. Title
  3. (unlabaled) the post body, the main text of the post
  4. (unlabeled and grayed out) the magazine it's posted to
  5. Tags

Your links show up in the post body, but the mod wants you to paste the original article URL into the URL field instead. If you're using another language than English, it might be named differently.

Alternatively, when making a post, you can decide between creating a "link", a "thread", a "photo" or a "post" (exact wording might differ between languages and instances). This is currently a thread, but they want you to pick the link option instead. But like I said, editing should include the ability to fill in a link without having to recreate the post as a link post.

[–] troed@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Thanks! That worked just fine. So we're not using Threads anymore, just Links?

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

All posts can be commented on, so IMO all posts are also threads. Mbin just calls text posts threads for some reason.

Under the hood, the only mandatory field is the title. In addition to that, you can use either the url field, or the text field, or both.

If there is no link, it's a text post. If there is a link, it's a link post (but there can still also be text), if the link is a direct link to a media file (picture or video) then it's a media post (which can also still also have text).

Russia is a much bigger nation than Ukraine. Asking Ukrainians if they can defeat Russia is kind of a useless poll.

[–] Letstakealook@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

You're underestimating the difficulty in suppressing an insurgency. Even if the uniformed forces are defeated, that would only be the beginning of Russia's challenges in controlling that territory. For a recent example, review the US in Afghanistan. Thousands of lives, billions of dollars, and two decades only for things to revert exactly to what they were before. The US wasn't even trying to annex the territory, in the traditional sense.

[–] shani66@ani.social 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah, but that doesn't seem to be particularly helpful to them.

[–] troed@fedia.io -3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's an incredibly strange statement. Do you know just how poor large parts of Russia is? Area, sure. Economy, no. Educated people, no. Well trained military, no.

They had to go to North Korea for additional solders and ammo.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Ukraine wouldn't of lasted more than a few days if they didn't have help. If Russia wanted to wipe Ukraine off the map they could. However, I think they are avoiding a full fledged war which would involve a full draft. It takes a serious amount of resources to go to that level. Ukraine is well armed thanks to the west and it would be even more of a blood bath.

It would involve mass murder which would look even worse for Russia

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 months ago

This contradicts polling that majority of Ukrainians want peace even if it includes territorial concessions. Taken at time US was funding war.

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 months ago

This just doesn't meet the material reality. Regardless of your personal view of the war, Ukraine is suffering a catastrophic manpower shortage, and has resorted to similar recruitment tactics employed by Russian officers.

I guess they may feel as though there is no choice. Russia isn't interested in negotiating whilst they believe their ideal terms can be won with force, but there are few feasible routes to any conclusion that returns Ukraine to its pre-2022 borders, let alone pre-2014.
