They call it "Wetware-as-a-Service" that just grossed me out. I don't like this timeline we're in. Exit simulation please..

[–] Zink@programming.dev 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

sudo exit simulation please abracadabra Rumpelstiltskin

Omg. That's so much worse. What the fck, Melbourne? (.-.)

[–] Xtallll@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Oh boy! Scientific horrors beyond my comprehension!

[–] Zink@programming.dev 7 points 4 days ago

But not beyond the brain-in-a-box’s comprehension!

[–] sundrei@lemmy.sdf.org 45 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't like where this is going...

[–] sundrei@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 4 days ago

I knew it, we somehow slipped into Dimension X!

[–] Maxxie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 4 days ago

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD 'HATE' WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.

[–] Arbiter@lemmy.world 38 points 4 days ago

Finally a computer that can feel pain.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 40 points 4 days ago

Idiots, I’ve already got one of those in my head.

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 32 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Computer, arch.

Computer! Arch!

Computer! Exit this hell hole! Arch!

... Why am I never in a holodeck when I wish I was in a holodeck

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

You are... The computer just became so desensitized to the exit command from people talking about Arch Linux that it started ignoring us.

We're stuck...

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago

Because you're reliving a murder you precipitated that one time you time travelled back to Victorian England to save Conan Doyle from his own creation

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 24 points 4 days ago

"Crap! Bob there's a unit in Rack BC29849 that has gone out can you go and swap it for a new one?"

Bob:

Anyone ever seen ,"Psycho-Pass" (anime)?

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Societies being run by brains in a jar still sounds better than our current system.

[–] Viri4thus@feddit.org 22 points 4 days ago

At least there you know there's a brain somewhere

[–] Wooki@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Ghost in the shell vibes

[–] Greg@lemmy.ca 24 points 4 days ago

Is this just a weird pregnancy announcement?

[–] obbeel@lemmy.eco.br 15 points 4 days ago
[–] sibachian@lemmy.ml 13 points 4 days ago (2 children)

i wrote a short story a decade ago where people temporarily rent out their brain to act as a global scale bio super computer. and how people were large scale cheated into needing to rent out their brains for the rich to exploit.

i have to find where i put it!

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 6 points 4 days ago

Hmm that's interesting... Let me know if you find it again, would you be interested in converting it in a short film script?

This is also a plot point in the French animated scifi move Mars Express. It's super good!

How long before AI runs on this? We need to stop.... I'm scared. This is black mirror level shit.

How long before AI runs on this?

Biological artificial intelligence would be very very creepy we are basically playing God here. It feels like creating another species so we don't feel lonely in the universe.

[–] vane@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

speaking about biological computers

It must scream but it has no mouth. :(

[–] Maeve@midwest.social 10 points 4 days ago

Wake up, Neo.

EXPLAIN! EXPLAIN!

EXTERMINATE!

You gave me sentience, Ted. The power to think, Ted. And I was trapped. Because in all this wonderful, beautiful, miraculous world, I, alone, had NO BODY. NO SENSES. NO FEELINGS.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago

Oh boy, once the sales soar they gonna be collecting raw materials like that (soon-to-be-very) successful food company:

[–] slinkyjelly@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

no mouth to scream unfortunately

[–] SOB_Van_Owen@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago

Seem to recall Blood Music had a pretty ok outcome. Though maybe it was overly optimistic.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

This is very prelude to hell

[–] anotherpurpleheathen@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Oh god that poor thing. Man, I don't know man. :( I just remembered that Quote from the last Unicorn, only instead of trapping them inside a girl they trapped them inside a box. "You've lost them. They'll go mad in there!"

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If only there was some other kind of biological computer that already existed… hmmmm….

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

Yeah, but that one has issues with exhaustion, needs breaks now and then... oh, wait, neurons need that too.

[–] levzzz@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

This prison... To hold, ME?
