Summary

Donald Trump will impose new tariffs on Saturday, including 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% on China, citing fentanyl trafficking as the reason.

The White House provided few details but denied reports of exemptions or delays.

The announcement caused the Dow to drop over 300 points, sparking fears of renewed inflation.

Economists warn the tariffs could disrupt trade and economic stability.

The Federal Reserve is closely monitoring the potential impact on inflation and growth.

America is going to quickly realize they need to hold Donald Trump and his cronies accountable if they want to be associated with the world’s most democratic nations.

We will force them to follow international law whether they like it or not.

American here, and it is a huge hope of mine that other nations develop new business/economic relations to replace those held with the US. I want those witless troglodytes who were crying about grocery and gas prices to watch as Trump fucks them right in their wallets and walks back every other stupid shallow empty promise he made them. So please, have no mercy on American products. Cut us off. Starve the cancer.

Edit to add: also if you guys are still serious about taking WA, OR, and CA, I will help you, haha

As an OR resident, I will also help.

You know, I like the way this is going. The last 2 republican disasters that democrats had to dig us out of (the 2007 financial collapse when I entered the workforce, and the 2020 covid pandemic when my kids were entering school) really had long slow dramatic burns which were unpleasant gradual declines. If he makes it bad enough fast enough, the reaction will be nice an swift so we can begin formulating a rebuilding plan earlier, even if that plan has to look like settlement building in fallout 4.

You know what? Its probably time to clock out of all of these communities and dig into my local community. He's probably trying to get this exact reaction he just got out of me and cause exhaustion. I'm fucken over it.

We in Europe also want some of those tariffs! So we can focus on trade with Canada, Mexico, China, Panama and other good countries.

Would love for USA to be isolated and lonely with the current way it’s run.

This was the one that made my qanon MIL buy a new phone last week because it finally got through her thick fucking skull what these tariffs were going to do. Enjoy those Mexico- and Canada-produced vehicle parts adding $10k+ to your base price.

I thought it was March? Now it's Saturday again?

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

You're looking for consistency from the trump administration? I would have zero surprised if he announce retroactive tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting prior to the USA even existing as a nation in 1776.
